Ok, Fluxbox was nice and all, especially light but possibly a little too light. I dicided I wanted something a little more but didn't want anything as hefty as Gnome or KDE, and lo and behold there is another option. Again, completely customisable and with a wonderful right click entirely usermade right mouse button menu, I present, xfce :)

Stretch only stretches the same image to each screen unless I'm not doing it right. When I use stretch all it does is stretch the same image to fit each monitor ...I'd like to have a single wallpaper split to occupy both monitors or a different wallpaper on each monitor. I thought that maybe that's what hydravision was for but I don't think so.

I thought there might be some shareware or something out there that would help. UltraMon looks like it does the job but it's not shareware.

I used the NV video drivers to allow me to use two different background images, and I'm running the Ultramontaskbar.exe file on it's own to get the second taskbar on the secondary monitor.

can u guys post how to post an image and also links to those hot*** windows desktop themes you guys have. i tried stardock but i have the fact that it shows up in username in task manager because i always turn programs off from there and i end up turning stardock off then i have to log oof and come back in for it to restart or switch to windows theme. it would be nice to have a theme that can run the same way that the xp and classic themes run. thnx a lot

I have had that question so many times. I think I've answered two or three times in this thread, as well as dozens of times in real life. It's basically the one app I could no longer live without. I haven't found anything nearly as robust or perfect or small.

It's great. I didn't want the Widget one, nor any others that only had a day with a side-menu for things. This is exactly what I needed. Trust me, after you use it, you'll never go back to a regular calendar.

i FINNALLY got coolmon 2 working correctly. its either configured with a WYSIWYG or a XML ( they call it CML coolmon markup lanugage ) script tool.

you can do some really amazing things with it. im just glad i got that much working:)

mm mine SHOULD run independant of even mother board monitor. If you wanna try it out make sure you get all of the visuals and plug ins even if you dont think you will use them.

the whole this is done by creating "Forms" on your desktop that allow you to insert text and visuals into the form. if you script it outside of the form you cant see anything. its kinda like cuting holes in the desktop and having graphs and suck behind the hole.

its complicated untill you get the hang on it. you use pixel locations to position the forms around. then you use the pisxle locations inside the form for the tags. it looks alot like HTML

ill attach a txt with my code in it.

but even with the source code it took me 2 days to get it to work on my computer. it may look the same but the code is almost totally overhualed

Here is my baby. I like it. I'm running talisman as the shell. Various different icons from Deviant Art, which rocks. I am using Y'z dock on the right. It is awesome too. One of my computer teachers owns a powerbook, and he loves the dock, and when I showed that to him, he went nuts. So I had to get it on his pc. Other than that I am all pretty much stock. but it so much better than the stock gui.

Deicist, how did you change the actual windows. I've replaced the shell and all that good stuff. but I cant figure out for the life of my how to change that.:( and are you using icon packager or some other app?

I use style XP (http://http://www.tgtsoft.com/). You have to pay for it after the 30 day trial but it lets you change the visual style, boot screen, login screen, icons etc etc... And there's a section on deviantart for visual styles, that's where I got mine from.

I'm running Windowblinds (GT3OS), Icon Packager (Same theme), Cursor XP (Again, same theme) and the GT3OS wallpaper. I've got my login screens running the GT3OS login too.

I've never messed with replacing my shell, things like that make me shudder to think of it going bad.

About as minimalistic as you're going to get.

No shelling, no theming. explorer.exe hacking, shell32.dll changed to "shell16.dll" (i stole the win2k one from college). Used "ResHACK" to modify explorer. Made my own .theme file (great for thos late nights in the dark, no eye-burnzage)... and some .ico changing. ResHack'd the start button (saves about 5cm in 1024*768 res)... again used ResHACK to hack the .bmp, got my own 16x16 and it work'd. Then just went into regedit, found the right place in winlogin, and changed to tweak'd vers. Only uses about 10~12k in memory usage...

Beryl is now on my desktop and my macbook is now running linux Debian. (Im probably goina switch back to mac os when 10.5 comes out.)

edit: I really see no point in running windows anymore. Microsoft drove me away from gaming with Direct X 10 and vista that was the only thing keeping me from switching before.

I remember some time ago (Win98) there was an OpenGL shell replacement for Explorer. It left enough to be desired functionality-wise that I kept using Explorer. I still don't understand why Microsoft requires top-of-the-line hardware to do things with the Vista shell that, from what I gather, could probably be done even with integrated hardware (albeit a bit slow)...and appears that Linux does already.

But that is a topic for another discussion.

It's not a skin, it's a shell replacement. I got tired of Aston shell drawing in DDraw, kept me from doing some things. Litestep doesn't use DDraw if you don't tell it to in it's config. Now I regret spending that money on Aston shell..
