Possible Trojan - please help

Dear All,

i have a quick query regarding a possible trojan on my computer.

I bought a new computer late last year. I am very aware of virus problems, so i bought the McAffee Suite on the recommendation of a computer tech friend. I always keep it updated, as well as the windows security stuff. I also scan disc and defrag regularly. I run a virus scan once a week. I have also downloaded the free version of Adaware and Crap Cleaner which i also run regulary.

Earlier this year I was googling the lyrics of a song and McAffee popped up saying a trojan (or some virus) had attempted to get onto my computer. I expected (since mcaffee knew that it was a problem) would have blocked it, but when i pressed next, it said it could not remove (or stop) it. I went back and forward for a bit, not wanting to press ok, but in the end, i had no option. I immediately turned off the internet then turned it back on (not really knowing what else to do) and downloaded a couple of programs to try and get rid of it.

No scan showed anything - Not even McAffee. I downloaded a freeware program called Spyware Doctor, which indicated i had a program called Trojan.Lazar. Since no other program has picked it up, I was wondering if Spyware Doctor is dodgy and just trying to scam people, because of course, you have to pay to remove the trojan. I have no problem paying the money if i know it's all ok and it will work.

My computer seems to be ok, but a bit slow, and some times really slow (for a new computer). I'm concerned this thing is running in the background.

Anyway, if anyone has any recommendations it would be much appreciated.

Spyware Doctor is a legitimate and trusted program as far as I know. But of course everyone will prefer cleaning their own computers without paying. I am here to help you with it. :)

Could you please download 'Hijack This!'. http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe
Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\HJT\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Do a system scan and save a logfile".

When the Notepad window opens, do Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Your HijackThis log appears clean.

However, since HIjackThis does not scan the entire system, I will now have you run Panda ActiveScan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm).
Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
A new window will open...click the Check Now button
Enter your Country
Enter your State/Province
Enter your e-mail address and click send
Select either Home User or Company
Click the big Scan Now button
If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report
