This is the question...

NAY IT IS MY PROBLEM!

Damned Air Conidtioner froze over, can't sleep in this heat! Opening a window helps some, but then bugs get in through the screen. Ugh, this sucks!

Agreed. Can't sleep in anything over 65F. Problem is I've got two machines running at 100% in that room with a measily fan set on low. If I set it any higher, it actually drowns out the two CPU fans and the 3 case fans I have. It's LOUD. Luckily, it really blends in well on lowest. I really can't even hear my CPU/case fans anymore when I go to sleep :)

Heh. I'd just stay up. Take a caffeine pill or something when you go to work/school.

We bought a ceiling fan for our bedroom, during our yearly 3 day heatwave it was bliss, invest in one.

I thought air conditioners were supposed to automatically go through a defrost cycle if that happened.

It appears that the system is either low on refrigerant or the drain for the evaporator tray is plugged. Either way it is in need of service. If this is in your home I would turn it off and have it taken care of so you don't burn up the compressor and that will cost a lot more to fix.

If the house literally was too hot for me to get comfortable enough to sleep in then I would just go to my truck, crank the A/C all the way up for a few minutes (10? 15?), set my seat all the way back and grab some ZzZzZzZz. But somehow I bet that if you're tired and just having difficulty falling asleep because of the heat that you could exercise (treadmill + crunches + pushups) for 45 minutes or so and wear yourself out. Falling asleep probably wouldn't pose a problem at all after that.

If its a window unit:
i used to have he same problem at work with a huge AC. best thing to do is turn the AC to the fan setting (aka AC is off but still blowing air) the air will help melt the ice faster. to stop it from freezing just set it to a higher temp
if its central air:
i haven't got a clue
