Who here bowls???

I use to play just for fun but recently since my surgury Ive tried to get back into some sports - I have had a fair amount of sucess- I can play b ball, surf, football, Baseball and what not and they satisfy my competitive urge but I cant get hte fact that IF I reinjure my knee its back to the operating table. Truth be told when they wheel you in the OR and ur under the lights before they give you the Anistesia its the most terrifying thing ever knowing ur there to get CUT.

So with that in mind Ive kinda started bowling again. I found it quenches my competitiveness without having to worry about tearing my knee to shreeds with one bad turn or one hit or one crash.


So who else plays? I've just ordered omy own shoes since its really icky if you think about it you know putting on a pair of rented shoes.

and Also whats a good mid range ball?

While I used to bowl (and I was on UC's Bowling team) I haven't been into it for awhile (mainly because most of my friends don't like it) so I don't think I can help much... Good luck though, it's pretty fun... Gotta love the sports that you can do while drunk... :-) Kinda like Cornhole or horseshoes...

The last time I bowled I failed to break 100. Two times before that, my score was so low that the guy behind the desk announced it so that the whole bowling alley full of people could laugh at me.

I don't bowl any more.

The best I ever did was at a party for work... I started out the game with five straight strikes, since that was the 6th or 7th game I had bowled that night I got tired and pretty much took a nose dive from there... I think I finished right over 200 for that game...

i usually finish around 175 when i bowl but lately have been in a rut and cant get above 120...

omg that had to suck hard. I like to bowl myself. I find it fun to do with a group of friends or family. It isn't hard to where you have to teach someone new what to do, and it is simple enough that you can play over and over and it still be fun.

The only thing I hate is that I don't have my own ball, so when I do bowl, sometimes by thumb starts to hurt after about 3 games or so. I usually hit about a 100, maybe a high 90 so I'm not the best in the world but it is hella fun.

I am pretty into it... I work part time in a bowling pro shop. Good midrange balls for a once a week'er or for goofing off with is any of the entry level balls from Storm called the Tropical Storm series. They even have a sent mixed into the resin that is used to make it so it smells nice. Each different color Tripocal Storm has a different sent. Makes the bowling bag smell nice.

Also the BVP series from Brunswick or the Tornado series from Ebonite.

All of thoes balls are reactive resin (not plastic) and have a little bit of some kind of core technology that helps give the ball some extra movement but not like the higher priced balls.

If its just for fun these balls will do just fine, you definately want to stay away from any of the plastic balls although just getting a ball that fits your hand properly is the most improtant thing.

Balls, just find one a good weight for you around $70 since I doubt your doing this for competition, the hard part is finding someone to drill the finger holes for you.

When I was in my early teens I was in a "learners" bowling league one Summer. Since they knew that people would miss a week here and there for vacations, etc, they allowed you the option of either bowling a round before you left and having it count for the next weeks score, or merely being assigned a score based on your weekly average plus 10%. (They assumed that we would be improving that much week-to-week.)

My team captain told me to take the 10%, pointing out that there was no way in hell that I'd ever beat that on my own. I haven't bowled since. (At least not when I was sober...) :(

I Bowl here an there, I have my own shoes, and 15lbs ball. But my Knee started to hurt when I bowled so I stopped for awhile... "time to lose some weight..."

We used to go bowling every Friday for gym class, and I got pretty good, for using a house ball. I was averaging 180 for all of a month and broke 200 once. It's one of those things that I'd kinda like to get into more if my other interests weren't wresting me away from it.

I like the 10 lb balls. The're light enough to not hit the floor till they get half-way to the pins.
