View Full Version : Foreman's Copywrite?
I think that is what it is called when you post mark something and ship it to yourself and keep it unwraped. Does anyone know if this is still considered legal for Copywrite purposes to prove something is your's in case someone steals your idea?

Technically, anything you write is coprighted as soon as you write it. It's just hard to prove without filing for it. Last I checked, filing costs about 40 bucks. Sometimes it holds up in court to mail it to yourself, but filing is the only official proof.

If I am correct, after the first printing, which would include a draft from your personal computer printer, the document is automatically copyrighted. But as stated, proving the originality of yourself as the source might be difficult in court.

I looked into copyrighting here in the UK, don't know if it's the same anywhere else. What you have to do is post a copy of the material to yourself. When it arrives do not open it but give it to a solicitor or bank for safe keeping. Thats it.

Another way is to mail it straight to your solicitor, obviously informing him/her.
