View Full Version : Free games or something more sinister?

Someone just mentioned in the WINE IRC room that free games were being offered for download on the bittorrent site and I just assumed they were demos or something (notice it says "TRY these games for free" but comparing the sizes, they aren't anywhere near the size of the demos, infact they are the size of the full games (this is the original BitTorrent site - http://www.bittorrent.com ). The packages inside the torrents also look like proper setup programs (I've not downloaded any to check what they really are, 1GB is a lot to download for nothing). So what do people think? I mean I thought the main BitTorrent site was legal and they seem to be the single file installers so I ruled out warez. I could see some really old games being given out but brand new games like Commandos 3 and SWAT4?

Any thories to what is going on?

Ah, 30 day trials. Erm, not sure how that works, you can complete any of those that are completable in a lot less time than that, heh.

No... not 30 day trials. The person that said that was guessing but didn't actually say he was so everyone assumed he'd tried them. So, anyone tried any of these?

I always thought the search engine on bittorrent.com was unfiltered. Thats why there were issues with the RIAA.

Just do a search for something like "Quake 4" and you will get results from all of the big release groups.

As for these trials I honestly have no idea. Never heard of a 30 day trial of a retail game like that before.

They looked too... "clean" for that. The way they are on the front page with same size case icons, single exe installers and the way it says "Try these games for free". If it is warez then it's doing a bizzare job of trying to hide it.
