When I turned my computer on this morning (Windows XP) my norton antivirus said it found a virus it could not repair. I went through all of the steps to delete it, including deleting it from the registry. The virus is gone and my computer is working fine, except for the following four error messages I get from windows, everytime I turn the computer on.
Windows cannot find 'C:Program. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search.
Could not load or run "C:\Program' specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry.
Windows cannot find 'Files\WAFFLEz\mlgl.exe'.Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search.
Could not load or run 'Files\WAFFLEz\mlgl.exe'. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry.
THis was the virus, so I removed it. How do I get rid of these messages from Windows? If you know, please helP!
Thanks,
Teah

Click Start>>Run, then type in msconfig and click "OK". Go to the Startup tab and look through the list for the culprits. Uncheck them and reboot.
You'll get a message at startup saying that you've messed with the Startup options. If everything is working properly you can tic the box to prevent the warning from showing up again.
Tell us how it goes.
Okay, I tried that. I found the mlg file on the Startup page. If I uncheck it and reboot in selective mode, it starts without those messages. If I uncheck it and restart it in normal mode, they come back. How can I remove the mlg file from the startup list permentaly?

Leave it in selective mode and tell the warning message to go away. This is really a poor choice of terminology on Microsoft's part. Rather than refer to it as "Normal Mode", I think something like "User Defined" would have been more appropriate. :)
Thanks! SO it is safe to just always turn my computer on in selective mode? Sorry- I don't know anything about this stuff!

...SO it is safe to just always turn my computer on in selective mode?...
Absolutely. :D
Sometimes when you're troubleshooting a problem you need to temporarily turn off something which you really need, such as your AntiVirus program. The reminder is there to help you remember to turn it back on after the problem is solved.
In this case, the things you turned off are things which you know you'll never want to see again. Disabling the reminder message does no harm at all. Should you ever use msconfig to make changes in the future you'll automatically get a new reminder.
Glad you got it going.

Hello,
My computer recently developed the same problem. I did what you said, and the problem went away for a while, then it came back, and I did what you said, and it came back. I was wondering what you meant by look through the list for the culprits. Which ones are culprits, and which do I need to keep? I've unchecked almost everything except anti-virus start-ups.
Any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Sir Guy, try posting a HijackThis (http://www.short-media.com/download.php?dc=69&p=3) log. That should show us everything you've got going on. The fact that the problem recurs makes me think you might have some spyware issues. If so, you came to the right place for help. :)
