Hi all, Hope this is in the right place.
I don't take video with my Kodak camera very often but yesterday I did. They are in .movbut I want them in AVI or Mpeg so I can play with them in Roxio and get them on DVD. Anybody know of a decent, free pref, prog to convert them?

I've never had to convert from MOV before, I usually convert AVI to SVCD using TPMGENC. A quick search gave me Radtools, and evidently, it's freeware.

I found a converter from Xilisoft which does them. It's a baby vid I had on my camera but I use Roxio for making DVDs and that doesn't support movs. It's only a one off, all other vids will be done on my video camera.
I'll have a look at radtools as well.
Thanks DogSoldier.
Quicktime Pro has that ability, and it renders so nicely. ;) But it has a small cost to it.

It's also still Quicktime, lol. Yes, I hate Quicktime and I HATE MOV files.
I really don't get why people hate quicktime, if it is becuase your forced to install iTunes, there is the standalone player you can download.

It's because it's proprietory crap that is constantly shoved down my throat.

What Enverex said. I still haven't figured out how to disable qttask at startup.

I've been using a converting app called "Cineforge"

Direct download link ^
I'll let you figure out how to use it. It's pretty simple. Just input @ file you want. Output, then change extension. Can pick fps, quality, bitrate, resolution, etc. Good app. Drains CPU a bit though, but shouldn't take all that long for you since I've been encoding .vob files into .avi....

msconfig @ run -> startup tab, surely? Worked for me last time (*shudder*) I had SpyTime

Well I don't want it because, like I said, I use Roxio Easy Media Creator for my DVDs and it doesn't support .mov files so I can't use them. Anything else I want to view I use Media player or Winamp so I don't want another player just for movs. And yeah, lots of web sites try to install the thing and it keeps popping up all over the place. I keep getting rid of it then something else installs it.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'll have a look at them all.

To be honest if you want a media player that has it's own codecs, and plays just about anything you should get "VLC Media" player. It is freeware.
