This would certainly qualify as a blockbuster event.

According to an extraordinarily reliable source, AMD and ATI will on Monday pitch their shareholders with the proposition that the two companies merge.

Imagine what the computer world would look like should this rumored merger actually take place.

I figured I would see an AMD/Nvidia before ATI/AMD, I mean, Nvidia is AMD's main chipset developer, unless AMD is just gobbling up ATI to clear the market.

Nvidia is worth more, AMD doesn't have enough money to buy them.

Anyways ati's curent lineup of chipsets are quite good and there much more popular on the intel front. (There even used on some intel desktop boards)

If this happens expect ati's videocard prices to drop down since they can use amd's fabs to make there chips.

Good point - and it might work both ways.

Another snippet from the article:

AMD will be glad to get its hands on ATI's very profitable handheld division. The firm needs good chipsets and will also benefit from a great consumer digital chip segment. It will also like the integrated graphics business and will now get a piece of this action.

I thought a few weeks back when these rumors circulated they turned out to be bogous. So now it's back on?

It was a "We can neither confirm nor deny..." thing.

If it was 100% truth, i would have expected both the AMD and ATI stock exchange to be put on hold by now. These rumours can make the 2 shares go jo-jo.
