View Full Version : faults in movies
title basically says it all.
I was just watching war of the worlds and I realized something that was wrong with the movie. In the begining when theyre watching the news and they say in the ukraine there was a lightning storm and sent out surges that fried all the electronics, the same exact thing happened like 10 minutes later in the movie. Tom cruise runs outside and sees the lightning striking the ground and then looks and then runs inside. He tries to turn on the lights but they wont turn on, he looks at his watch and its not moving, and then he looks at his cell phone and that wont turn on either. Ok now heres where the part that they messed up on, or at least I think they messed up on. When tom goes to the place where the lighting struck theres a guy with a videocamera filming the hole in the ground. That videocamera shouldnt be working just like every other electronic device in the whole city. Cars couldnt start, phones, watches, lights, anything, so why would that videocamera?:honoes:
anyone else notice minor things wrong with movies.

I saw one. There was this baby Elephant in a tree with a mouse in his hat and they fell out. He realised if he flapped his ears he could fly but, and here is where they slipped up, he fell for so long before he flew the tree would have to be like 500 feet tall but views from the tree suggested it was no taller than 200feet max. How these people find work is a mystery.

I've always gotten a kick out catching mistakes in movies. Apparently we're not the only ones (http://www.moviemistakes.com/), tmh88. :D
And bothered, I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes the people who make these things seem to have a total disregard for the intelligence of the audience. As I recall, in that same film there were some singing crows. In and of itself that would not be unusual - but these fellows actually sang in harmony. Pretty darned un-crowlike, if you ask me.
I used to be a member of nitpickers.com
I was really into finding mistakes in movies when I was a teenager, and had time to watch movies over and over looking for mistakes :)
I remember that at the time, the movie with the most nitpicks was "Titanic". Most of the entries were about staff and camera crews reflections showing up in all of the polished brass and silver that went into the sets for that movie...

 Tmh,
If he had it unplugged, I think he would be safe. "They" always say to unlupg your TV when lightning is forecasted, so I assume the principle is the same.
I found one this weekend- the making of Basic Instinct II period- one loooooong mistake.
guyute, no it wasnt that it went through the wires, it was EMP's aka electromagnetic pulses. In the movie these lightning bolts that acted as EMP's destroyed any electrical equipment even if it wasnt plugged in. Cell phones, watches(tom cruise even looks at his watch and its stopped), cars, and other stuff wouldnt work at all, except for that one guys camera.
read about EMPs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_pulse
I know I keep my video equipment in EMP shielded bags. :)

tmh, i noticed that too when i saw war of the worlds. and if i remember rightly, there is no proof of an emp-proof videocamera bag anywhere.

I found a fault in High School Musical.
(...but I think I'll spare myself.)
I always like watching Independence Day and seeing after all the destruction the palm tree's still standing with their large leaves. ;)
Or in T2 when the helocopter gets shot to hell and then in the next scene it looks fine again.
Or in LoTR when Gandalf with his staff in one scene he has it held upright and in the next it's held sideways.
I would be a good continuity guy for movies...

Sorry Prof, outta context but I had to say it ;)
My wife was watching Coronation Street Sunday, and when Mike the owner of the undergarment shop was talking his hair was parted on one side, then the scene flips to his conversationalist, then back to him, and his part is on the other side.
When I get bored by a show I start to notice/criticize these types of things...
