UK vs US Unreal Tournament

Following much rumblings amongst the fraternity here ;) It has been decided that we should consider an contest, a tournament.

The original Unreal Tournament remains one of the most influential first person shooters around. It's fast and its furious.

So Im proposing to organise a tournament... UK vs US.

A simple shakedown.. with some fun ;)

1) 1 vs 1 = A table of players.. fighting one on one .. UK vs US.. down to a final.. to determine who is the best.

Then..

2) Team deathmatch and team Capture the flag.. UK vs US.. fighting to the death and then fighting for the flags.

Then..

3) An open free for all deathmatch set of rounds.. who is the fragmaster??!

and last..

4) A single match of last man standing. To determine who is the UT kings.. and where they live.

The linked to map is a great capture the flag, I used to be addicted to it. See what you guys think, it quite large and as essentially a two level setup. There are two primary routes to reach each base to try and capture the enemies flag, through an extremely direct route, which stretches down long corridors and a less direct but more challenging covert underground route.

Try it out and see if you think it's a worthy map.

There is a problem with this, you have to remember that all of us from this side of the pond have to add at least +5 hours to your time, in people like cyrixinstead's +6, so it would have to be early afternoon at the latest.

here's an update of sorts. prime and I talked about this a couple days ago, I'm now uploading the maps and textures in one large 80MB file up to addaboy.com, prime will then grab that zip file and stick it on the short-media server, it's got a fatter pipe, what can I say, blame genetics. I'm sure you all know this, but unzip and put the maps files in your maps folder and the .utx files in your textures folder.

Now, the last time we tried this it never happened because no one said, "this is the time and place" so I'm going to do just that right now.

Drumroll please: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The first Brits vs. Yanks UT Grudgematch will be held on Sunday June 29, 2003 at Noon EST, meaning 1600 UTC (or GMT) and for the brits that translates to 1700 hours. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the time, the place will be addaboy.jetstreamhosting.com which you can visit and play on any time. If you have any problems with maps not downloading properly, I will put a link to that zip file on addaboy.com shortly, and like I said, Prime will also have them available for download here soon.

Now and again mine does that. I have a MS Gampad pro. It works like a dream but very rarly it will do the same thing, I can move around in the game with the arrow keys but not the gamepad. ( I only use the game pad for the arrow keys and left trigger for jump, everything else is on the mouse) I press the show desktop key the click gaming options which brings up the gamepad properties, I just click OK then close it and return to the game, the pad works after that.

I think that game only proves I need more practice. I literally pasted the addaboy link and the game loaded up for the first time in almost a year, and then all of a sudden I was getting pounded on by Shorty and Trin'. I tell ya, it was like a splash of cold water.

Bothered just run yourself through the single player tournaments, that should help tone your skills. I on the other hand need to just play as much as I can till Sunday, to make sure I am of some use to the UK team.

Also, we're talking the Sunday after next right? I ask that because I get the feeling some folk might have mis-read the posted date by accident. I certainly did at first.

OK I installed UT and started the tutorial but I dont know how to make the view go up when I move the mouse up and not when I move the mouse down. I am totally not used to that at all and really suck at aiming already and that only makes it worse.

OMG I played the first death match and I got smoked 4 times in a row bad. I cant aim at all.

So what esle do I need to do IE maps and such. I downloaded the thing in Spinners primes post but did not install yet.

You mean invert mouse? Up goes down, down goes up? It's on by default I guess in the options. Go to the menu and uncheck Options -> Preferences -> Input tab -> Invert Mouse.

pythagoras, Yeppers bud, Thats me on the addaboy site. Good game back at cha. Gnome And I own the addaboy UT server. I've spent 7-12 hrs for the last 4-5 days downloading maps and unzippin them --breakin then down-maps-textures-sounds--music- etc and uploadin them on the server. Also as I said in prev post there will be a map vote as soon as the server techs set it up. I sent it to them a couple of days ago. It's the only way to get it on there--them settin it up--.They should have it on there for the tourny for you guys. Happy Fraggin! Hawk

Sorry for the double post --but I wanted to tell you all that I put a list of all the maps on the server and links to map DL site and also link to Map Manager program that will load them into your game for you after you DL them to a file on your pc. It's on addaboys in gaming section. Just show the map manager where the map file is and it will read them and you highlight each and hit install --simple. Saves you having to unzip and break them down and load maps textures, sounds etc. Hawk

Absolutely, now we know what the score is (if you excuse the pun), I think the games will start to get a lot better, as both teams will start to understand their opponent a bit better. i.e Their strengths and weaknesses.

So maybe we let the UK have one or two in Team DM and domination, but I was pretty sure domination was tied .......

Oh well, no matter, I was barely playing. I was drinking tea and eating crumpets and scones and casually moving the mouse once in a while.....
