hey guys. I have both an Athlon 64 X2 4200+ and a Core 2 Duo E6400. It seems the Core 2 Duo is better, so I'm thinking that is the way to go for my rig. Also, I have DDR2 4200. Is that sufficient to run at 1066Mhz FSB. I see lots of people getting DDR2800, but will it really make that much of a performance difference? Thanks for any info.

Conroe. Though they are both nice processors. But that conroe should oc pretty well. I want to get my hands on a E6600. But yeh, if you are only gonna keep one, save the conroe, and sell the x2

You couple that e6400 with a Gigabyte p965DS3 mobo and you will definitely have an FX62 killer. I've seen multiple posts about the Gigabyte DS3 and DQ6 Conroe boards getting 480+ fsb speeds without much beyond adding a quality TIM to the NB and SB like Ceramique or AS5.

Corsair XMS2 or G.Skill "HZ" DDR2-800 (Lesser G.Skill has issues with the DS3)

your cuurent memery is very low speed to run that fast. Isn't PC4200 533Mhz? your at half speed :)

Also AMD is slower right now, but chips are a bit cheaper in the AM2 line making the AM2 a good choice as Quad cores will drop into the current AM2 line :)
