Ok, I have been thinking about this, mainly for MP3 players, and their interface ports, which are usually only found on the hard drive based mp3 players such as the Zen Vision:M, Ipod, and others. Why cant these people just standardize. The main reason I am fired up is because I can get an ipod dongle thing for my stereo, but I dont want an Ipod, I want a ZenVision:M.

Am I wrong in thinking that this would be similar to if you have a brand x tv, and you go to the store, and find a dvd player that you like, you get home, and hot damn, the tv uses some wierd a/v connector, and the dvd player uses some other bizarre proprietary connector, and there is only one brand of dvd player that you can hook up to your tv. Wouldnt that suck balls? Well, this sucks balls to me not being able to hook a vision:m up to my headunit.

I dont see/know what the problem with standardizing would be, the only thing that the interface must support is all of the control functions; such as play, pause, stop, next, previous, ff, rw, next folder, and such, as well as it should have audio output(duh) and provide a power line so that the batteries arent burned up.

Is this too much to ask from our manufactures? I mean, they all use the same headphone connector, and others.

Id like to here some input, such as what you think, and if you even give a flying fxck's

They want you to buy their connectors and their accessories. Of course they won't standardize.

yeh, but the problem is, they dont make a connector to interface a vision:m with my headunit, nor any headunit afaik, they are all for ipod, which is bs.

Go to Rat-Shack and buy a 3.5mm stereo to rt/lt RCA connector and hook it up to your head's aux input. After that plug the 3.5mm end into your MP3 player's headphone jack. Pretty simple.

Anybody else getting tired with the Ipod glamour fad?

A few weeks ago I went to the mall to buy a 3.5mm to cassette adapter for my mp3 cd player. Went to Radio Shack first and just cause the damn thing was white and said it was for Ipods, it cost $30. Went to another place and it was $35. I finally went to K-Mart and they had some RCA ones which were black, with simple packaging and it only cost $6.

I "pfft" at the Ipod.

and that is how I do it now, and I am aware of that option, infact, I have it hard wired that way as it is my only option. but a interface cable gives more than a path for the audio signal, it also provides power, and control, instead of leaning down to mess with the mp3 player, I could simply use the remote for my headunit.

and yeh, I am about tired of the ipod, it isnt that great of an mp3 player imo, but I liken it to the idiot that all the girls like at school, just cause all the girls like him doesnt mean he's the best...

Apple and Apple authorized accessories are so over-priced it is absurd.
