Need Help Computer ~ T.V.

Ok I have a HP dv5120 Notebook and I'm trying to hook it up to my Panasonic plasma T.V. There is a PC jack in the front panel of the T.V. but when I hook it up the computer doesn't find the T.V. What am I doing wrong or what do I need to get??

Did you go into the monitor set up on the notebook? You need to configure the second monitor. Are you taking this from a video out connection or a S-video?
Is hte TV on?

Yes the tv is on and yes I have went into the monitor set up and selected always us tv as monitor when plugged in.

also, it does have a s-video slot but i'm not using that just the pc plug/ the plug on the tv says PS
