I recently ran Astra 32 on a colleauges computer to get the system info and found that his main HDD has a "Bad" health status. Is there a way to fix "Bad" status by disk checking, defrag etc. or is this a lost cause? I have a couple of programs on a utility disc that claim to "Repair" and "Rescue" hard drives, but not sure if they would be useful in this situation.

Byron, I've never heard of a third party software program as being the best method for diagnosing a hard drive. Perhaps it is accurate, but I wouldn't trust it. Your friend needs to download the drive fitness software for his specific brand and make of hard drive and run that software. All the major hard drives' diagnostic tools are very good. Have him do that, and we'll go from there.

Download and run this on a CD. 0x72 or 0x70 = bad HDD, needs to be replaced.
