Toolbar888 {Solved}

[onewinged]

my computer recently started having many popups and i noticed a strange program under add/remove programs called toolbarr 888. i tried to delete it but it said that this program had allready been deleted, and the uninstall entry was gone for it. i also noticed that without my permission, my firewall had been turned off. every few minuted or so a messege from avg free pops up saying i have a virus then it heals it, and a few minutes later i get another. so i typed %temp% and deleted ALL of the files in that folder. i dont know what else to do so i really ned some help.

I am running windows service pack 2
my antivirus is avgfree
my spyware scanner is lavasoft
and i use windows firewall

hi winged, lets take care of the new.net first-->Please download LSP-Fix from the following link and save it to a location you can find later if necessary.

To remove New.net. please go to Add/Remove Programs via Control Panel, look for and remove New.Net. If you can't find it, then please go here (http://www.newdotnet.com/removal.html) and follow the removal instructions in Procedure 4 at the bottom of the page.

If you can not connect to the Internet after removing New.net, please run the LSP-Fix program I had you download earlier, and click on the finish button. Reboot and you should be able to get back on & please post new hjt log after doing the above:)

the new.net is removed but im afraid your not in the clear yet winged but dont worry we'll get you there;) please do the following-->First download ewido anti-spyware from HERE (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/) and save that file to your desktop.
Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
Once the setup is complete you will need to run ewido and update the definition files.
On the main screen select the "Update" icon then click "Start Update". The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
Under "Reports"
Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close ewido anti-spyware and reboot your computer into Safe Mode (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=61).
Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess.
Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan"
Ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Ewido will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, it should automatically set the recommended action to Quarantine--if not click on Recommended Action and set it there. Click the Apply all actions button. Ewido will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).
Close ewido & post that report in your next reply

Make sure that you can see hidden files.
Click Start.
Click My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
Click OK.

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.

which part of vundo stopped? did it not come back up after running it as a task?

when it fist scanned it was ok, then it had to reboot so i did that. then it wanted me to do a scan on reboot so i clicked ok and it had been 30 minutes and it was taking way longer than before so i stoped it. should i try to do it again?

Click the Magnifying Glass icon.
In the box that opens, paste this: (only copy/paste whats in the CODE box and don't copy the word "code" thats above the code box ONLY whats in the actual box)

Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cbxutsp.dll
and click 'Done'

Click the Traffic Light icon to start the program, and OK the prompts to reboot your PC.

Post the Avenger output.txt, which you can find at C:\Avenger\.txt

weird, could you please rename "hijackthis!" to something else like hijackthis199.exe or of that sort because the latest variant of vundo tries to "Hide" its files from detection if it knows HJT is on the victims computer then after doing that post new hjt log

ok, but just remember winged limewire is a P2P program and as with any p2p it makes your system very vunerable to malware but as long as you have good protection (AV,anti spyware, firewall etc) you should be fine for the most part but just wanted to let you know that:

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

Next,

This process will clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files. Please do both steps:

Step 1: Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=61) and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.
