View Full Version : [Solved]Project1 Virus... Need Assistance (already searched)
I have the project1 virus (don't know any other name for it). So far I have run AVG Virus Scan, an Online Virus Scan (F-secure), Adaware, Spybot, Window Washer, and Tune up utilities, and nothing has removed it. I see everyone posts a log for hijack this so I'll do the same. If anyone can help me remove this virus i'd appreciate it.

Here is a new hijack this log. I read somewhere that the file for hijack this needed to be in c:/programfiles/hijackthis so I moved it and ran another scan.

Tell me if you have an active Firewall? I don't see one in your log. You maybe using Windows Firewall?
On to the fix:
I would like to see another log from HijackThis. Run Hijackthis.
Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
Next click on Open uninstall manager.
Press the Save list button.
Save the file to your desktop, with the default name of uninstall_list
Copy & Paste the entire contents of that file in your in your next post.____________________
- Download this file - combofix.exe (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe)
- Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
- When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

I ran combo fix but encountered some problems.
Initially I ran it and it came back with 4 files that said infected, but it did not produce me with a log.
I ran it two additional times and both times it said
Look2me orphaned entries found!!
It did not say anything about the infected files. Then the blue screen disappeared and a blank black one came up, and then it said "combo fix has encountered an error and must close.
The only additonal thing i found was this.

Could you boot your computer into Safe Mode, and try ComboFix from there please.
To get into Safe Mode.
If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
Login on your usual account.
Reboot back into Normal Mode, and post the ComboFix log, along with a new HijackThis log.

Reboot your computer, and do an online scan with Panda ActiveScan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm)
- Once you are on the Panda site, click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

I made a slight mistake in the bat file, so the previous one didn't work. The following is correct:
Copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the following text in the quote to Notepad. Save it as "All Files" and name it FixServices.bat. Please save it on your desktop. @echo off
sc stop "Windows Overlay Components"
sc delete "Windows Overlay Components"
exit
Double click FixServices.bat. A window will open and close. This is normal.
Run HijackThis and click on Open the Misc Tools section.
Click on Delete a file on reboot...
Copy and paste the following into the "File name:" text box and then click Open:
C:\WINNT\jtaqsqx.exe
When you are asked "Do you want to restart your computer now?", click OK.
Your PC MUST reboot to delete the file!
Once rebooted, do the following...

Please download AVG Anti-Spyware to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.

Install AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the installer.
Follow the prompts. Make sure that Launch AVG Anti-Spyware is checked.
On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.
Click on Change state next to Automatic updates. It should now change to inactive.
Next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and uncheck Start with Windows.
Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
AVG Anti-Spyware manual updates (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/).
Download the Full database to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder and install it by double clicking the file. Make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed before installing the update.
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
Login on your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode:
Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start AVG Anti-Spyware and run a full scan.
Click on Scanner on the toolbar.
Click on the Settings tab.
Under How to act?
Click on Recommended Action and choose Quarantine from the popup menu.
Under How to scan?
All checkboxes should be ticked.
Under Possibly unwanted software:
All checkboxes should be ticked.
Under Reports:
Select Automatically generate report after every scan and uncheck Only if threats were found.
Under What to scan?
Select Scan every file.
Click on the Scan tab.
Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
Let the program scan the machine.
When the scan has finished, follow the instructions below.
IMPORTANT : Don't click on the "Save Scan Report" button before you did hit the "Apply all Actions" button.
Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine (1), if not click on the link and choose Quarantine from the popup menu. (2)
At the bottom of the window click on the Apply all Actions button. (3)

When done, click the Save Scan Report button. (4)
Click the Save Report as button.
Save the report to your Desktop.
Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
Reboot back into Normal Mode

Sorry for the delay.
We need to view hidden files and folders:
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.
Next, find and delete the following:
C:\WINNT\foulu.dll << this file
C:\WINNT\ac3_0008.exe << this file
Find this file:
C:\WINNT\system32\aht9eef0.sys << this file
Right-Click and select Properties. Go to the Version tab, and make a note of what info is available, especially next to Company.
Please post that info here
I deleted the first two files.
The aht9eef0.sys file does not have any information provided in the properties. It is actually an unassigned file and doesn't have a specified application that it opens with. The only thing i can add is that it was created the same time as the other files which i deleted.
Delete that file too then.
Reboot your computer and let me know how things are.

I deleted the icont.exe file, however i did not have either of the iwon files. I even clicked on display hidden system files and it wasn't there. I ran a search, however it returned over 10,000 miscellaneous files. I restarted however it did not correct the problem.

It may be a good idea to start a thread in the Windows Forum and see whats answers you get there. Lets look at another log:
Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE (http://www.silentrunners.org/Silent%20Runners.vbs) and Save As (in IE it's "Save Target As") to download Silent Runners.
Save it to the desktop.
Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click the new text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

No thats fine. In all honesty I can live with it. I was just nervous because I thought that there may still be something on my computer. 1 because the panda scan said there were still objects, and 2 because of the black background. If everything looks ok to you, then I think it should be fine. Everything looks normal?
