I was approached today asking if I knew of any large, long term investments and the first thing that crossed my mind was a game known as Earth:2025 (games.swirve.com/earth). I've played it for 4 years now and not much of anything has changed...I have some big ideas/plans for this...

anyone on here know about investing in internet games/sites?

Is it really an "investment" if you never actually make any money back?

If someone asked me for a hot tip on an investment, I'd tell them he who relies on one egg in his basket is a fool. If someone wants to provide me a hot tip on an investment, I'll run away as fast as I can.

Tell your friend he needs to look for long term, market proven, mutual funds. Most of the ones with solid long term records will hold tech issues along with a great variety of other holdings.

It's very good that you are interested in investing. Concerning a a financially successful future, those failing to plan are planning to fail. Start now to learn about the fundamentals of investing and your goals - short term, mid term, and long term. If you want to start parking your money responsibly but don't yet know what to do, put the money in something conservative, like credit union or bank CDs. (Instruments that are guaranteed to create a positive return. They are also insured.) Study investing and avoid the media financial headlines for the day - in isolation they are typically useless, or worse. There is tons of great advice and education available online. Try the main investment and mutual fund houses like Vanguard and Fidelity. Learn the principles and trends first, or you are most likely will just be gambling, and not investing. There is a world of difference between speculating - few eggs in one basket, buying on a hunch or 'hot tip', and investing. Knowing the difference is critical.

And you might be surprised to learn that none of this is difficult to learn.

As usual, Leo's investment advice is right on the money. I agree 100%.
