Well what do you guy's think of our ThinkQuest layout:

We're thinking of doing this layout, and another one that will be solely CSS.

It's a good theme, but I think the legibility of the fonts I see there will be an issue. It's "cool" but too compact (and the nav bar under the flash banner has very low contrast). I don't see a content font - what were you planning to use for that?

I'm actually well into researching a new design for Short-Media and can point you to some reading material if you want to go hardcore on this, but I think you're well on your way for what would be needed for a ThinkQuest page :) (I doubt it's worth days of research, right?)

I take it from your comment that you don't plan on doing this layout with CSS, but do plan to do so for another. Why is that?

//edit: It's a great concept piece, btw :)

Well the coding part is all up to Andy, so you can wait till he replies. As far as legibility, I wasn't planning to use that font for the content, just the layout itself. The content will most likely be times or arial or something similar. And I would appreciate it if you posted some of those links. :thumbsup:

I'll take the links.

Vash wants to do a photoshop layout, and I think a css/tableless design is the way to go, but we are doing both, vash is doing the ps, I am working on a css based layout. I want to learn about as much of this as I can.

Here's the best reference out there on web development: A List Apart (http://alistapart.com)

It's seriously the field's bible. Digging through that has consumed a lot of my time recently. Also, click on the link for "The Deck" located under the only ad on the page and check out their affiliates. Their contents and/or designs are also generally worth studying.

That's just one link but I think you'll find that rabbit hole can lead much deeper than you'll want to go at the moment. :)

//edit: I'd be willing to bet you've already seen this, but the CSS Zen Garden (http://www.csszengarden.com/) is required browsing :cool:

//edit2: If you're seriously into this and want to get some books, I also highly recommend "Eric Meyer on CSS" (and its sequel "More Eric Meyer on CSS") and "Designing with Web Standards" by Jeff Zeldman. The latter I read in only two sittings, and I have a terrible time plodding through tech books. Also, there's "Don't Make Me Think" (2nd ed) by Steve Krug on usability that I really enjoyed a lot. I've probably spent $800 or so over the last three years on various tech books, so those recommendations are based on a wide range of selections I've read, browsed, or used as reference.
