A License to Cool: nVentiv Mach II for 2.8 GHz

Almost all benchmarks underline the fact that the nVentiv (formerly Chip-con) compressor cooler enables the AMD Athlon 64 FX to scale up beautifully as clock speed increases. The average performance increase of 27 per cent almost exactly matches the clocking increase of 27.3 per cent, particularly in the case of the professional 3-D rendering applications (for example, Lightwave, 3D Studio Max and Cinema 4D XL).

Check out the article at THG

They're the same thing.

leishi85 had this to say
it's an athlon 64 FX 51, not an opteron

They're all Opterons (the same CPU core). The only differences are Memory channels (Single or Dual) and active Hypertransport (HT) links (1,2 or 3).

Opteron: Dual Channel Registered DDR333 Memory
1xx - One HT Link
2xx - Two HT Links
8xx - Three HT Links

Athlon 64 FX: Dual Channel Registered DDR333/400 Memory
One HT Link (rumored two links active )

Athlon 64: Single channel Unbuffered DDR400 Memory
One HT Link

Close Omega, but not quite. You forgot the Athlon64 differs from the Opteron/FX by pin count too, not just memory and HT links.

Duron, Palomino, Thoroughbred, Barton, Opteron....they are all name of the CORES, except for the newest Duron/Thorton deal. If they wanted, they could make a 939 pins Thoroughbred.

From what I've heard they *might* make a 754-pin TBred (it is 754, right?)

Yes 754 is the Athlon 64 series.
