PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- About 1 percent of Web sites indexed by Google and Microsoft are sexually explicit, according to a U.S. government-commissioned study.

Government lawyers introduced the study in court this month as the Justice Department seeks to revive the 1998 Child Online Protection Act, which required commercial Web sites to collect a credit card number or other proof of age before allowing Internet users to view material deemed "harmful to minors."

In a related story, the one percent rating is actually down from the two percent rating of a couple years ago. The major difference being the untimely death of Short-Media's babe thread, may she rest in peace.

I think mine is the only one that really has clothing that is obvious... Well JChretien does, but the sig cancels it out... lol

The similar threads and google ads are kinda kinky... it's freaking out since pr0n was mentioned... lol

I think it's probably due to an increase in parking sites rather than a decrease in porn sites.

It's gotta be more than 1%...pr0n traffic is MUCH more than 1%. Even if 99% of the sites are non-pr0n related....no one visits them. hehe

Yeah, I think the better question the survey should have asked is what percent of time is spent looking at porn sites. Imagine getting volunteers for that study, though.

It'd also be interesting to see what percent of Google AdSense ads are shown with "porn" as a keyword, or what percent of Google searches are trying to find pron.

Further, if we could get the geographical distrobution of those searches, that'd be an awesome map. Privacy questions would probably arise, however.

One study I saw says that the leading region for porn is the American Southwest.
