View Full Version : Don't Overwork

So currently, I work in the conservation sector of the MSU library, preserving books. What I do is when books are missing pages, are damaged, or vandalized, I scan copies of them or fix them in Photoshop, and then reprint and cut them to size.

I work about twelve hours a week doing this, and some of the projects are quite large (Like a book on Sextus Empiricus in which 100 pages were vandalized and had to be scanned, then fixed in Photoshop. However, the problem I am facing is that in the last three months, I've cleared out their entire backlog of books--from when they didn't have a person over the summer to do my job--all the electronic PDFs with scanned pages, and I am almost done with the special products.

So really, the problem is I am about to run out of work shortly before Thanksgiving. My job was just guaranteed through next semester, which is nice considering all student employees are supposed to get laid off at the semester break, but... What am I going to even do next semester?

The solution is clear: Vandalize more books.

Ass, here I do my one good deed of the decade by bringing in a semi-serious discussion, and you do that.

Here is the deal. I will 'borrow', read 5 finger discount, a book and you can replace the entire thing. :)

I had a similar experience about twenty years ago which ended with me being offered the choice of either taking a crap job or being laid off. On the plus side, I got a great job within a few days and told them to stuff it.

Twelve hours a week shouldn't be too hard to replace. What do you want to do?

The alternative is working in the cafeteria, and it's a deplorable job. After working there I can't eat much of the food. The fact is I do enjoy the work I do, it's satisfying and in some cases can be pretty interesting, it's just that it's running out. Opportunities are not abode up here.
