All right, as some of you may know, I've tried virtually every energy drink* available in the USA, from the 79 cent 8oz cans that look like they were dragged out of some cold war-era warehouse in Russia, to the 22oz bottles that cost more than a cheap lunch. Today, I am trying NOS. The bottle is bright blue with an orange label -- it looks pretty much like a canister of nitrous oxide, unsurprisingly. It has warning labels all over the place, such as "Do not provide to children, pregnant women or people sensitive to caffeine."
I have a caffeine tolerance that would stop a horse in its tracks, and I've consumed the bottle which is actually 2.75 servings. It has 2750mg of taurine, almost 400mg of caffeine, and the rest of these ingredients I've never even heard of.
If I'm prepping to have a heart attack, I'll pop back into this thread, but thus far, this is pretty weaksauce.

From that list, do you have any recommendations, in terms of flavor and potency? I've never had Bawls (snicker), but I'm getting curious (snicker) so I'm thinking about ordering some from Thinkgeek.

Out of all the energy drinks I've had, Fuze tastes the best, but it's more like a regular drink than anything else. For just pure energy, or getting help waking up, the drink in the blue bottle with lots of guarana and caffaine is pretty good. :p

GHoosdum sent me a bottle of Bawls a while back and I thought I was having a heart attack. I started panting, became flushed in the face, and started sweating profusely. (This was before my hot neighbor came out to walk her dog, by the way.)
I'm in much better shape physically these days, and am a little curious as to what the effect would be if I tried one now. I might drive over to the hospital parking lot and drink it there if I do, though - just in case.

I... am an Amp fiend. I love it. I sometimes mix it 50/50 with OJ to draw out a more mild effect over two hours for getting myself in a coding frame of mind. Never has such chemical toxicity tasted so good or cured my attention deficit so handily. :D
And, I avoid anything that has herbs and **** (e.g. Sobe-branded anything) like the plague. Redbull... really not a fan.

GHoosdum's Bawls have that effect on many men. Don't worry about it that much.

I like the flavour of Rockstar quite a bit -- it tastes very much like peaches. I also liked NOS' flavour, but energy drinks are YMMV.

I love redbull, rockstar takes second, followed by monster than full throttle.

Red Bull, to me, tastes like cigarette ash and Faygo Red Pop.
It is probably what cancer tastes like.

Like Thrax, I'm hooked on anything loaded with sugar, caffaine, and other unknown chemicals. My local Sam's Club had a clearance on Rip It. A case of assorted flavors was $4.81. So I bought a couple. It was my first time with Rip It, and I'd have to admit, it wasn't too bad. It tastes more like pop/soda than most do.
But my favorite is Rockstar. For some reason it just tastes magically delicious.
I stat away from Vault. It makes my heart beat funny. Seriously. I thought it was just a coincidence, but after the 4th time I knew it couldn't be.

I've still yet found an energy drink that has any discernible physical effects on. It's disappointing.

Redbull doesnt work on me, hardly any energy drinks do. But a quadruple shot americano works wonders for me...

The best energy drink I've ever had was Lost. It's made by Monster and it is the distinctive hawaiian bikini babe can. It tastes great and works alright too.
Amp is second, and vault third. Vault is more of a soda than anything.

You're supposed to mix it with vodka

I liken it (vodka) to what I assume gasoline/rubbing alcohol tastes like.

Probably because you're also drinking it out of a plastic bottle. Makes all the difference.
And while popular, the combination of Red Bull and Jagermeister is a terrible waste of Jagermeister.

I notice the difference between grey goose and (insert crappy vodka here). And they both taste like crap. It's not like I drink alcohol for the taste, anyways...

Grey Goose is way overrated. Doesn't even taste like Vodka, IMHO. If one is truly interested in smooth nigh-flavorless vodka, Old Russian (http://www.old-russia.com/home.htm) does it better.

while we are on topic of alcohol, have anyone tried whiskey with green tea?
I think what Thrax needs is some good old Red Bawls! IT GETS YOU HIGH!
That or regular Cocaine... it never worked for me but I guess if you have enough money it should make you feel like God.
I might have to try whatever the Keebs is using, maybe it'll get me back into the jig of things like doing work.

I'll agree with your first point but politely take contention with the second. I find Red Bull and Jager to be a delightful combination when consumed in moderation. Of course, Jager doesn't need any sort of additives. It's awesome without them.
I think Red Bull is good. It's like liquid Flintstones vitamins, if they were bad for you.

Why don't you make a review/write up the drinks since you have tried so many? I think it could be good :D

Yeah, line up every energy drink you can find and drink each one, writing a review of each as you go. Then we'll see if the caffeine will get to you.

That bottle of NOS was almost four cups of coffee in caffeine alone.

I don't have the money, and more important articles come first.

Yeah, sort of bland. Maybe if I drink TWO cans.

Admittedly, there are more efficient ways of getting caffeine than coffee. But coffee is the ultimate do-it-yourselfer's drink! You make it as strong as you want, after choosing from a huge assortment of different bean blends, grind it, and throw in creamy, sugary additives if that's your thing.
I don't go to Starbucks because it would be like asking Dell to build my computer.

I'd say Starbucks is analgous more to buying a computer from Apple, it has all these things you may not really need, but it's visually pleasing.

Good point. Starbucks and Apple have the same kind of faux-trendy going on.

I'm either very resistant to caffeine (Likely, as I'm also very resistant to other stimulants both <i>prescription or OTC medical</i> and painkillers, again <i>prescription or OTC medical</i>), or I've just had so much caffeine in my life it no longer matters. ;D
I think a little bit of both.

I would agree. Jager is fine all by itself.

Any alcohol when consumed straight tastes pretty lousy. This is why you must develop your bartending skills and learn to mix it with other beverages.
If you can't handle vodka you're a lost soul. Thats one of the milder alcohols taste wise to mix with. Try SoCo and diet coke...its a little fruitier, might be more to your likings if vodka is too strong for you.
