I came across an interesting article over at The Register, looking at the way in which computers can become more of an irritant and a cause of stress, rather than being the functional and productive tool they really are supposed to be.
More than four in five (86 per cent) of British computer users get irritated and stressed by PC problems, according to a survey commissioned by security firm Symantec. Only 14 per cent of those quizzed had the Zen-like calm to say problems with their PCs never irritate them.

functional and productive tool they really are supposed to be.
;D ;D ;D
I'm sorry... they didn't actually say that, did they? "Functional and productive"? Hehee. "Functional and productive" Hahah. Hehehee. Ahahahahaha. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Riiight. Pull the other one. Since when are computers supposed to be "Functional and productive"? Or am I the only one who has 4 computers, of which at least one is usually not working right?

Actually, those were my words. he he.;D
However, I thought it did pretty much sum up what they were saying.

Oh, it may very well sum up what they were saying, but every time I so much as look at one of my computers funny, it crashes. Or breaks. Or blows up. Or something. Hell, I'm afraid to BREATHE around them half the time... ;D

Spinner you sound like Microsoft, are you sure you don't work there?
Maybe you have written the text displayed when installing Win98,WinME and WinXP. :vimp:
A lot of people, myself included, go mad when their machine isn't working. :banghead:
They can't sleep and are restless. Some might even get aggressive. That isn't good.

Most likely they are running on a slow POS that can do what they want in a timely manner. That and a lot of problems are caused by the user anyway.

Heh. Towards the end of the article this made me s******...
Furthermore, a third of the respondents are suffering from "PC paranoia", admitting that they sometimes feel as though their computers are “getting the better of them".
PC paranoia, honestly. What exactly do people thing their PC's are doing?

Oh, I know for a fact that mine are out to get me. Ever since I networked them, they've been conspiring to make my life as difficult as they possibly can. The only reason they don't act up more is because they know that if they do, I'll "debug" them with a friggin' sledgehammer. ;D
Ergo, people are stupid, and computers are way too difficult for their tiny little minds.

I agree wholeheartedly with that sentiment. Most of the time, when someone asks me for help with their PC, it's going wrong because they're doing something wrong. Then I do what needs to be done, fix it or just touch it or something, and they say "That's exactly what I was doing, and it didn't work!"... well it's probably not truly exactly what that person was doing, and since I (you other Short-Medians as well) do it right, it works.*
*please note that this does not apply to networking, where one can actually do the exact same thing three times and get a different result each time.
