hey all, I need a new dvd burner, however, I've not looked in to them for a few years, so I guess a lot has changed!

I just want a dual layer burner, nothing overly fancy, just something reliable (and internal)

Any suggestions or links to places with reviews?

(Also - what new features would they have that I may not be aware of - I currently have a pioneer 106D)

Thanks!

I don't really have reviews for you, however if you liked the 106D (The king of its day), you'll love the NEC ND-5540A (Or higher model #, they may have a new version. The drive is fast, quiet, and is today's DVD burning champ.

Yeah, the 106D did 'run tings' for a while on the burner front :D

Ill give the NEC a lookie...

Does that mean NEC has stripped pioneer of its crown?

Also - where does lite on fit in to the equation ? - Cheap and average or cheep and decent?!

NEC has been the king for a while now, I'd say for about 16 months, maybe as much as 18. Their hardware is used in a ton of burners from other companies now, instead of Pioneer hardware.

Lite-On is cheap and decent right now.

7173A is a slightly-upgraded model, and is still a solid choice. The 111D is older, no dice on that.
