I would just like to ask if anyone here is familiar with or uses the Sophos AntiVirus program on their computers to scan for and resolve virus issues.

I updated to the new version of this program, but suddenly found that it displays numerous errors that ultimately prevent any virus scanning, automatic updating of its signatures or even the correct display of the version, date, time.

All in all even though it installs without any problems, I can't use it to perform any routine operations because of all the errors it keeps presenting to me when I launch it.

The previous edition will still operate properly if I reinstall it, but every installation of the latest version always produces the same problems.

I have been using the version 4 releases up to now but Sophos has moved up to version 6 and will stop supporting version 4 with updates for the virus definitions soon.

Thanks again for any suggestions you wish to provide and as always your help is greatly appreciated.

What do the errors read?

There are some excellent Free Anti-Virus programs, if you want to go that route.

Hi again Trogan

The alert I receive when I try to start a scan shows
"unknown error 0xA002000D"

The same alert appears when I try to use any of the options in the main Sophos console.

On top of that it shows me that on-access scanning is inactive and also the date of the last update reads 12/30/1899 :) That is no typo or joke :) The version number is also incorrect and it shows me ??? ??? instead of 6.5.0 :)

Very odd! I found this link...

...give it a go and see if it helps. :)

Thanks for your suggestion Trogan and I had a look at that link to see what Sophos support recommends.

Unfortunately I still have the same problems after I followed their instructions but I have contacted their technical department for further help so I'll have to wait and see if they can offer any other alternatives.
