Would you please tell me: a method to view .mht file?

I get "The webpage cannot be displayed" error (To see the error, Please check an image attached to this post) upon open the file. (JavaScript is enabled).

Microsoft states "A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft" at this website (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891019), but they do not have a download link for the hotfix at the website. :shakehead

Thank you for your time and help!

I'm no expert - but I have heard that you may experience this problem with IE7.

This work around might work for you -

Go to - Start > Settings > Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types
- Click on 'XLS' (Microsoft Excel Worksheet), in the extension list.
- Click on 'Advanced' button.
- Select 'Open in the same window'
- Click OK

Note: If this file is from an unknown source please be aware that it can carry a virus.

Now try to open your .mht file. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your quick response!

Edit\\
OS: WinXP Home.
Web Browser: IE7.

The "Open…" option was already selected by default.

I also checked MHT file’s "Open…" option; it is grayed and could not be selected. (To see the grayed option, Please check an image attached to this post).

Thank you Kentigern and all!

Please forget about above post#3 (http://www.short-media.com/forum/showpost.php?p=447606&postcount=3).

Thank you for your quick response!

Edit\\
OS: WinXP Home (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/default.mspx). (Operating System (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operating_system) installed in a PC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_computer) having the .mht (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MHTML) file error)
Web Browser: IE7 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx). (Default web browser (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_browser) used in the PC)

(I really apologize for: no provision of the OS and browser info at above post #1 (http://www.short-media.com/forum/showpost.php?p=447211&postcount=1); I could not edit the post within 24 hours* of posting the first post due to my work :hrm: ----- *About a month ago, General Keebler (http://www.short-media.com/forum/member.php?u=5) had set 24 hour time limit on edition of a post in this forum (here):werr: , to help combat spam here (http://www.short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52130))

The .xls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.XLS_file) file's "Open…" option was already selected :sad2: when I saw the option on Tuesday (12/21/2006). The option has been selected since the Tuesday.

A MHT file’s "Open…" option cannt be selected currently since it is grayed. (To see the grayed option, Please check an image (http://www.short-media.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=22076&d=1166734992) attached to post#3 above).

I' unable to open a .mht file with firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox) too:bawling: ; I get "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (mhtml) isn't associated with any program" error upon the openig. (To see the error, Please check an image (http://www.short-media.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=22093&d=1166980847) attached to this post)

Thank you Kentigern and all!

Thank you for all your help!

Problem solved! Opera 9.0 opened it!
I attempted to open the mht file with several programs, and got following results:
(MS Office version: 2003 (http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/prodinfo/default.mspx))

Opened w/ hyperlinks intact: MS Word (http://www.microsoft.com/office/word/prodinfo/default.mspx), Opera 9.0 (http://www.opera.com) .

I did not try NetScape (http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netscape_%28web_browser%29) and SlimBrowser (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SlimBrowser) for the attempt since those browsers might contain adware (http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adware)/malware (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malware)/spyware (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spyware) according to these (1 (http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/netscape.com/downloads/343386), 2 (http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/flashpeak.com/downloads/2745006/)) SiteAdvisor (http://www.siteadvisor.com)'s web safety testing result, and I do not wish the malicious programs to infect my PC.

I could not try MS FrontPage 2003 for the attempt since I do not have the FrontPage and could not download it from MS website (http://www.microsoft.com); MS has discontinued FrontPage and replaced it w/ the SharePoint Designer and Expression Web according to this (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/frontpage/default.aspx#5).

Here is the solution for how to view .mht files in IE 7...;)

you need to extract html files from .mht web archieve...

you can perform the extraction using any supporting extractor...

if you are too lazy to find .mht extractor, click on

http://uniextract.c1pher.com/uniextract15.exe

this will extract all files including html file and open the html file... life will be easy!
