Computer Running Slow[Resolved!]

Ive been noticing my computer has been slowing down etc and think it may be spyware, virus's. I have been here before and had help and it really helped me out. This is a Highjack This scan log. Is there anything running that shouldnt be in this log? If anybody could help me out that would be muc appreciated. cheers!

Open HijackThis and scan. When it finishes, put an X in the box next to these following item(s) and click fix checked.

You have an outdated version of Java. You should update it to the latest version.

Start Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs

Delete the old Java versions
Then we'll get the latest version of Java -> >Here< (http://java.com/en/download/windows_xpi.jsp)

Download & install Java Runtime Environment Version 5.0 Update 10




Kaspersky On-line Scanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/downloads/kws/kavwebscan.html)

When you are prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files
When the files finish downloading click on NEXT
Now click on Scan Settings
In Scan Settings make sure that the following are selected:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Extended (if available otherwise Standard)

Scan Options:

Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases

Click OK

Now under select a target to scan:
Select My Computer
This program will start and scan your system.
Online scan can take a long time to complete and the time is impacted by the speed of your internet connection. Be patient and let it run. It is best not to do anything else while the scan is running. This will help it to complete faster.
When the scan has completed, it will display whether your system has been infected or not
Click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop or another folder where you can locate it later.
Attach this file to your next message With a fresh HJT-Log.

Now that you seem to be clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure



Clear your system restore (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/mcgill1.mspx)
This will clear the system restore folders from possible malware that was left behind during the cleaning process.

Use ATF Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1)
Download and install ATF Cleaner. Clean your temporary files & folders with it regularly.

Use AVG Anti-Spyware (http://downloads.grisoft.cz/softw/70/filedir/inst/avgas-setup-7.5.0.50.exe)
Update it and scan your computer regularly with it.

Use CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/download/)
It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space.

Install SpywareBlaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html)
SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.

Install MVPS Hosts file (http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm)
This prevents your computer from connecting to harmful sites.

Use Firefox browser (http://www.mozilla.org)
Firefox is faster, safer and better browser than Internet Explorer.

Keep your systen up-to-date (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com)
Visit Windows Update regularly.

Keep your antivirus and firewall up-to-date
Scan your computer regularly with your antivirus.

hey cheers for all the help..i think my my computer is now running a bit faster but ive noticed ever since i downloaded this compaq connections thing my system has been slower. Do you know much about this? it popped up oneday from compaq and asked to download it so i did..do i need it?

I downloaded firefox also but dont know if i am going to use it as my default browser yet..i found it a little slower than IE..even though i only have dial-up internet :(..but yeah once again thanx for your help.

Glad to Hear that your computer is running better, I'm not sure about that Compaq connections software, is it even required?If it slows down your system.
I Suggest you use Firefox instead of IE http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Firefox/firefox-is-your-friend.gif, to ensure you won't get any infections .
