Problem with recording sound on my Asus

Hey guys, I recently built my first PC (based off a barebones V2-PH1 Asus), however while all the sounds have been working fine, I find that I can't record anything. The barebones came with onboard Realtek HD, after constant fiddling about with different line-ins and volume levels in volume controls, I gave in. I bought an Audigy Soundblaster SE, I installed it and updated my drivers to the latest yet it still doesn't work.

I have tried different microphones, drivers, messed about with the volume mixer, tried different line-ins and have checked that the Audigy is set for sound recording through the control panel. No matter the mic or the setting, when I plug a mic in I don't get any sound back and if I try to record something and play it back (using windows sound recorder) I don't get anything back.

Any possible help would be greatly appreciated :sad2:

n.b. I have also disabled the realtek onboard but it seems that the problem lays elsewhere?

edit- running XP pro SP2 as well sorry.

Unfortunately the RealTek HD audio will not allow you to record anything because it is deprived of the necessary mixer lines (Stereo and Mono).

The Audigy card should allow recording however, so make sure that in the sounds and audio devices menu of the windows control panel, you select the Audigy card as your primary sound recording device.

Thanks for your response but unfortunately I have already checked that the soundblaster is set as my recording device (control panel->sounds and audio devices->audio tab->sound recording:default device= soundblaster audigy).

Any other ideas on what could be wrong?

On my soundblaster volume control I have the following lines:

Master Volume, Wave, MIDI, CD Audio, line-in, mic, S/PDIF-in and what u hear.

n.b. Mic and what you hear are at max and unmuted.


edit- just loaded up Adobe Audition 2.0 (something I have yet to use properly, meh) and looked around in the input/output settings, it alerted me that the audio input was not properly configured and asked me to check my connection. I then exited/restarted and tried it again, no such warning and all of the input settings are no longer greyed out, yet I still can't record anything.

What kind of Microphone are you using?

You are positive you are plugged into the "Mic" Jack and not the "Line In" on the Sound card?

Most of the time I am using a labtec PC mic (can't remember the model) and I am plugging into the pink mic jack in the back of the soundcard, but I have tried the other lines as well. Other times I have tried to use a standard stage microphone that runs through a big->small adapter (it works fine on my friend's PC).
