Hey, not 100% sure this is the right forum for this query but seemed alright. I think it was after I found my PowerDVD cd, installed that and also found my Students version Microsoft Office cd and installed Word, Excel etc that most of the icons seemed to have changed.

It's nothing serious (I think) but basically most of the icons have changed to either that programme symbol or that other one you get when the PC doesn't know which programme to use to run a file.

Some icons have remained normal, like the folders, limewire and one of my PC games but most have changed (iTunes, Firefox, AVG anti virus, Ad Aware...). Also on the bit at the bottom right of the screen next to the clock I couldn't see the volume control icon but there was a space where it should be and if I moved the mouse over it it would say volume but that reappeared after a restart so that's fine.

Everything runs when I click on it but it's nice to have the Icons as it saves me from actually having to read what I'm clicking (I'm very lazy  )

Hi MathsPar
Download and install Windows XP Powertoys' (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx) "TweakUI" app.
Run the app and choose REPAIR in the left-hand column
On the right side choose REBUILD ICONS from the drop-down menu
Choose REPAIR NOW
Click OK
Check your icons - lessee if it helped...

Yet again I owe you one Pterocarpous (is there a shorter way of writing your username??) . Worked perfectly, thanks.

Did you try it already???

EDIT://
 !! Re-read your post. (I'm terrible about skimming...) Yippee! Glad it worked!!

When I first came to Short Media there was a revolt against my user name. Not because of its length as much as the opinion that it wasn't a fun user name. The guys bestowed me w/ the alias "Fruitwing" (see signature)... You're welcome to use that. Others have shortened it to "Pter...". What ever makes ya happy 's ok w/ me... :smiles:
