Gargoyle, check out what the 8KHA+ can do d00d! It took that 2500 Barton like a duck takes to water. I didn't do any mods to the 2500 and still have it on low side multi's, so the max multi I can get is a 12.5 without hard coding a higher multi in on it, but that is easily done. Plus, if your hard drive and memory can take it, I've heard of these old boards going way past 166 fsb too.

Anyways, Barton is definitely doable on this old KT266A board.:cool:

The max multiplier that the KHA+ can set on the 2500 Barton procs is 12.5, with the 13 setting in bios. However, you can hard code a higher multiplier on the processor itself very easily, by cutting or blowing some of the L3 bridges. I haven't done this to a Barton proc, but I've remapped the bridges on 3 different Tbred B procs, 2 to a 16 muliplier and 1 to a 15 multiplier. If you have a spare AT or ATX psu, you can easily blow the L3 bridges that don't need to be disconnected as the Barton 2500 uses an 11 multiplier, which has all 5 L3 bridges connected. I just soldered some sewing needles to a spare molex connector on the ground and +5v lines and touched them to the gold dots on the L3 bridges I needed to blow to remap the multiplier. You will see a small spark when the bridge blows. I've also heard of people using a 9v battery to do this but I have no personal experience with using the battery. Mmm, Barton goodness...

I wish I knew for sure weather or not my CPU would be stable at a higher multiplier, I'd blast one into it. I think I've about hit my max, though. I'm at 1666 now, and when I get close to 1700 it starts getting quirky. I wish I knew what was causing it.

It's not my RAM, it's got plenty of overhead, and I typically have it at the most relaxed timings. Might be my Radeon? I could always volt-mod the board to get more CPU voltage, but I'm not sure it's that either. I run it at default voltage at 1666mhz, but at 1700mhz it suddenly needs all that I can give it (+0.1).

Unfortunately, while this is my main rig I can't raise the FSB. Now I've got the RAID and SCSI cards in it and I don't want to bork my array and my swapdisk :(

Once the Athlon 64 comes out, I'll upgrade. Either to an nForce2 or an Athlon 64, but I want to see what Athlon 64 options there are before I go off and buy another XP board, you dig? I am so yearning for an upgrade... I hope the Athlon 64 doesn't take too much longer.

Can I was the pin mod http://www.ocinside.de/go_e.html?/html/workshop/pinmod/amd_pinmod.html to select the molti? Barton precessors are unlocked by default? Are you still using a 166mhz bus qithout problems?
