Some website not working with wireless router installed.

Hello Folks,

First time writing in with a problem, although I've been here before looking for Texas Hunter (a member here.)

Anyhow, after a recent swap from cable modem to DSL, I found resetting my wireless router was harder than I'd remembered. The router is a DI-624.

I don't have a wireless desktop computer (Dell) so I'm running a ethernet cable from the desktop to the router.

I can get on the internet with the desktop, and my laptop (another Dell, built in wireless) even with encryption running. Heck, I'm here right now. :)

But certain websites aren't working, on of which is Yahoo Mail. I can get to Yahoo, and then to Mail, but after that it locks up.

I'd thought it was a cookie problem, and it does seem that when I cleared my cookies things worked better, but not completely correct. The sites work real well, and fast, when I don't log in, but after logging in, they bog down to nothing.

Brian,

When one sits with no response like this it often means no one is quite sure what to do with it. I haven't seen this one and it makes little sense.

When you authenticate (plug in user and password) all the computing work is being done on the server you're connected to. For your Dlink, its all just packets passing through...it really doesn't even know you're authenticating. And the sites you're signing into (at least Yahoo mail) aren't even a secure server. There's really nothing that special about them that the Dlink should notice.

So first of all I see that you changed both your ISP and reset your Dlink. Lets isolate things and take the Dlink out. Can you just go from your DSL to one computer? Do things work that way? If not, call your ISP. If things do work, then my first gut is that you should reset that Dlink to factory defaults and start over.

I am not using Yahoo mail, and I am not sure if that's an issue here, but some sites rely on pop-up windows. For example the mail site my wife uses does. If you are blocking pop-up windows, that would obviously cause a problem for those sites. Just a thought.

I'll reset the Dlink and try that. But yes, when I remove the router from the system, all the websites work normally.

Made a break thru!

While making sure I had the latest firmware from Dlink, I found a troubleshooting page on their website. It directed me to lower the MTU rate on the router from 1500 to 1452. That worked, although I have no clue why.

Now I just got to make the laptop connect to the router again, after I reset the thing to default settings, the laptop is not picking up the internet.

Thanks for getting back to us. I had one screw up because of the size of the MTU....a long, long time ago. I wouldn't have thought of that.
