Did your virus checker have a recent update - that could have quarantined a required file.

didnt even install an av program yet. was going to when i noticed things where all screwed up. these are very similar problems to the ones i was having last time around. i tried a repair install of windows, and that seems to have fixed the dns server. the dhcp and wins servers are still down tho

Hi test_tube'

Is this an MSExchange server?
If not, what database is it that you're trying to access?
Before doing that, I'd recommend you verify the integrity of the HDDs involved.
IOW, run diagnostics on the HDDs.
Are they in a RAID array?
Be sure to backup the data first (even though you're unable to access it)

EDIT://
Is this the same computer you were referring to in THIS (http://www.short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53718) thread??

Check out this link at Microsoft it explains how to fix:-
Files in the Single Instance Storage (SIS) Common Store folder are no longer valid after you restore a Remote Installation Services (RIS) volume from backup in Windows Server 2003 and in Windows 2000

Tony, I just re-read your 1st post.
Something has to have caused the system to foul again - particularly since you had it working.
What needs to be troubleshot here is the cause of the data corruption.
Based on your previous thread (http://www.short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53718), I'm suspecting you encountered another power event.
You really need to get those power issues resolved.
Otherwise, you are going to (1) cause even more damage to your equipment and (2) continue to encounter system failures of all stripes - not the least of which is data corruption which you're dealing with now.

nope no power problems. the other computers are fine. i ran a full hardware diag on the system and everything passed. as did the prime 95 stress test. i do run exchange. but thats on a different server. the exchange server doesnt have any problems what so ever as far as i can tell. not doing raid. im not runing any extra databases except for what ever the main server uses for what ever it uses them for. theyr mdb files.

Kentigern, ill look into what you posted now...

That's terrific! Even though everything passes hardware tests, though
doesn't mean you aren't continuuing to experience the effects of
(undetected) power events ..... Do you have sufficient power protection in
place now?

...i do run exchange...
That was my oversite on my part, Tony. You'd already answered the
question. I just missed it.

I know what you mean! I'm flying hoover flags myself. Trying to scrape up
the $ to buy Vista (have to - gonna have to support it so gotta learn it...)

APC makes good power protection products but they're on the high end cost-
wise. You can find other less expensive solutions. My references to APC were
more to get info. on the specs. you need in power equipment. (They have
those nice wizards you can go through to spec. out your power protection
equipment.) You can take the info. you learn from there and apply it to
another manufacturer's power protection products.

I know you're in a catch 22. You can't afford to be down but you can't
afford to buy the remedy either. We've all been there.

The problem is, you have that flakey power there and you have a lot of
equipment whose power you need to protect. The more equipment - the
greater the load - the more it's gonna cost to put power protection in place.

I'll look around for more affordable solutions. If I find something promising, I'll
letcha know. :smiles:

i can get 1500va geeksquad backups pretty cheap on my discount. only thing is, i dont know what kind of protection and filtering they offer other than just being a UPS. the way i see it, im too broke to be cheap. if im gonna spend the money, id like to get something decent. also, i still have the battery pack from the old apc, so if i got another, i could plug it into the rear battery port for extra run time.
