Since being single again I am finding that most women my age want to dance. Even my GF wants to go but I just feel awkward not knowing how. Here in central Texas it means anything from western dancing to ballroom and anything in between. So since I am getting into better shape by way of eating and exercising I am ready for the next step. In the past I have always wanted to dance but without much for a lead it always came out like something from a Steve Martin movie! So I have just signed up for 3 different classes; Ballroom dance, Latin dance and Swing dance. As I am getting older I am finding that I like the old swing music that is making a bit of a comeback. it also seems like fun music to dance to and there are even cool clothes if so inclined.

You must be nuts.

Seriously, if you enjoy it then more power to you. The last time I tried to dance I nearly put several people in the hospital. That wouldn't have bothered me so much, except one of them was me. :p

I agree with you Goat, I LOVE to dance! I would love to start some ball room dance classes with my fiance, but time is a little tight right now. We may try to fit it in somewhere.

So I have just signed up for 3 different classes; Ballroom dance, Latin dance and Swing dance You are brave! My brain could never sort out the new steps from three competing disciplines. I'd have to do the three classes separately, that is each separated by a long period of time.

Hey, all the power to you. I took dancing lessons about 20 years ago from an evil taskmaster woman in Germany. It was too fast, too intense. I didn't learn much. And to think, my wife didn't divorce me. I embarrassed her so much - she's a good dancer.

I absolutely hate dancing, but I ain't too bad at the western style... not like there's much to it anyways. But this modern crap kids do these days... bleh. If a girl wanted me to choose between not dancing and her, I fear I may just stay single for a long time.

Not so much fear... as loath.

Dancing can be fun, and if you are indeed willing to dance, it will give you an edge with the ladies for sure. It will give a preception of being a fun loving fellow (even if you hate it, like most men do).

As long as you arent doing it alone, how goofey can you look?

Ive never actually laughed at couples dancing. But those guys you see at the club, out there dancing alone, and kind of sneaking up on the ladies dancing, now THAT is laughable!

Good luck and enjoy!

Dancing is always a hit with the ladies Larry ...I'm sure you know that already. But dancing well is a bonus! Good luck!

I swing dance and have for about a year and a half now. I learned through a school swing dance club, and then learned more for a musical I was in. It's a great deal of fun.

The only dancing I do is slow dancing when I'm alone w/ my significant other or drunk dancing at clubs. ;D

:eek3:

LOL, unless you are really drunk it just seems creepy to do that. Better to just ask and not seem like an axe murderer.

I'd like to learn more sophisticated dances but I haven't taken the initiative, unlike you! Good luck, let us know how it goes and how easy they were to pick up!

Are you referring to the dance steps? Or to the women he meets on the dance floor? :vimp:

The good news is that it isn't all at once. I will be doing the Ballroom class first as it is required to take the other classes. They more or less teach you the basics and some is fast and some is slow. Then about 2 weeks after that is finished I start the swing class. I am happy the hear from Nomad that he enjoys it. ;) Then as soon as it is over I start the Latin class the following week.

Sounds like you should have just let your wife teach you. ;)

I will be sure to et everyone know how this all works out. I don't think I had the temperament for it when I was younger.

I tried it and learned that I just plain don't have any rhythm. I can make it work but it is just that, WORK. The amount of concentration that I need to put into it means I don't have any fun. I used to make jokes about being like Steve Martin's "The Jerk" and I really am. I actually thought I had it one night while out with my lady friend ands she got into the music at a disco. She told me that I was extremely brave for doing whatever it was that I did. However she was impressed that I was willing to try and dance with her in public like that! I wasn't even drinking and just thought I could feel the music. Silly me! ;)

Well at least you tried, which puts you WAY ahead of most men! ;)

There's always the two-step and slow waltzes. The 'disco' stuff comes and goes like old underwear -don't worry about it.

You might give it a rest and try again in a year. Some of us (yes, me, dancing) just learn slowly, but we learn.

A+ for effort, mt! Who knows, maybe you'll give it another shot down the line. :)

My lady friend is 51 and put 99% of the crowd in the dust on the night in question. The average age was about 30! I am going to move on to 2 step and waltz's. ;)
