rs232 to ttl circuit chip, i know you can't buy them by themselves, but which currently used computer items contain them. I'm pretty sure some mouses do but when i asked someone at RadioShack if a mouse had the chip they looked at me like i was stupid.

maybe a computer swap-and-shop type thing would be best?

Thanks.

Google has some good results. Link (http://www.google.com/search?num=20&hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=kI3&q=rs232+to+ttl&btnG=Search).

they have good results, but for converters and cables, i have the converter i need but i need the chip. and unfortunatley i can't seem to find good results on google :/

it's to build a console port, so i need something that uses a serial port and has that chip, because not everything with a port has it, which makes it a little harder to find.

You can buy the board at Radioshack (so you can make it yourself) and the chip is called ICL3221 (http://www.google.com/search?q=ICL3221) (I think). They don't seem to sell it assembled.
