View Full Version : Bad Crossword Clue?

I've been assigning crossword puzzles to my students as homework, which were written by the authors of our textbook. We changed to a new textbook version three months ago, and so the crossword puzzles changed as well. There is one clue, however that stumps everyone, even me... I can't think of anything that could possibally fit the clue, and it certainly is not in our book (three months of students (our classes are only a month long) have looked, as have I). I've also asked other Computer Science instructors, and our Department Chair (who has a heavy networking background) if they can think of anything that it might be. No dice. Perhaps, it is just a typo, or error in the puzzle, but before I white-out the clue on the puzzle for future classes, I thought I'd check to see if anyone here can come up with a viable answer to fit:

The clue is 'Electronic Network'. It is two letters, and the first letter is 'A'

Any ideas?

AC?

If by "electronic" they mean "electric" and by "network" they mean "circuit". :D

AC?

If by "electronic" they mean "electric" and by "network" they mean "circuit". :D

That's almost exactly what my department chair said. :)
AP, as in Access Point?

Access Point is the closest thing I could think of, too, but it's kind-of a stretch, and it's not in the book.

Well I have no clue, But you can put it" 'Electronic Network'. It is two letters, and the first letter is 'A'" as a bonus question and give like 10 points on the
next test to the ones who gets it right.
You can write the publisher for the answer.
I had a math teacher that would do a bonus question once a week.
I tell you it worked I would go nuts trying to get the answer and that's
what he wanted. For us to really try to work it out" THINK "
Oh,and I had him for a teacher like 35 yrs ago and I still remember him as a good teacher. He had a way to get you to want to learn.
I guess he did his job :)

Hey! I've never heard ARPANet abreviated as AN, but the book does talk about it... That's closer than anything else. ;)

So I am guessing the second letter is not part of another word then? That sucks because you could answer it by default then.

It could be a practical joke as well, created to cause sad teachers to spend months trying to figure it out.

It's a cruel cruel world.
