Just curious what the difference between these two power connectors are, if there are any other than appearance.

One is far easier to insert and remove than the other, that's for sure.

I'm not too fond of the SATA connector, too flimsy if you ask me. But better that PATA.

Meh, I like it. There's a trade-off with the size. How strong can you make it before it becomes too large?
