I received a gift in the mail a few weeks back and it was so cool I had to share it.
Our teammate Scott has a pretty impressive shop for his business and whipped this up on a new milling machine of his.
The material is described as follows:
6061 T6 aircraft aluminum
Fully CNC machined on a 4 axis vertical machining center
Red anodized finish.
Needless to say, this one is now prominently displayed in my computer room in a position of honor next to my monitor so I can look at it every day for the rest of my life.
You ROCK, Scott! :respect:

does anyone else get an idea for a small fundraiser? Perhaps one like than and one that is say 3/16" thick and smaller that would work for a keychain.
just an idea, I'd buy one.

Wow. Awesome work, Scott.
Uh... I think he sent it to the wrong person... That was suppose to go to Yorkville, IL....
Scott.... AWESOME work... Could we talk about more of them? Huh? Huh?

That is impressive. Flawlessly machined from solid aluminum billet, and then, no, not painted, but anodized! Beautiful work, Scott!
Very,Very Nice Scott!
As soon as I saw it I said the same thing;
A little smaller and it would make an excellent keychain.
Very cool!
Was this a birthday present, or was it a random suprise?

Awesome!
I want one. Maybe prof will bring it to the LAN and wager it on an arm-wrestling match? :rarr:

How thick is it? About 1/8"?
If Scott was interested in making some in stainless I can provide a bit of material.

it looks to be 5/16" - 3/8", though the angle of the shot could be producing parallax.

My guess is that it's either a 1/4" thick, or an orca.

Nice job Scott, but unfortunately it appears to have turned the Prof's hand purple!

Here are the dimensions, for those who are interested:
Outside Diameter (cog tip to cog tip): 2.5"
Outside Diameter (Ring only; w/o cogs): 1.9375"
Inside Diameter (Teh hole in teh middle): 1"
Cog Teeth: .3125W .25H
Thickness: .25"
Weight: 1.25 Oz
All measurements are approximate, using a cheap ruler and a cheap kitchen scale. Don't give me any grief because they don't add up exactly right. :p
As a keychain, this would be just a tad too big for my tastes. For a lady who likes to find her keys easily (or a dude with a manpurse :wtf: ) it would be perfect.
I am considering just how to approach Scott with the idea of making a limited run of these, complete with serial numbers on the back, and auctioning them off to raise money for the SMx Project (http://www.short-media.com/folding.php?v=smx). (Don't tell him - it's gonna be a surprise. :vimp: )

I'll take 1! I need something to put my key chain around....if I could get it to loop.

.25" means it's a shark!

that would be cool, but if he could scale it down to 1-1.25 inches in diameter it'd be perfect for a keychain. as it is it'd make a nice desk ornament/paperweight. What would also be awesome is if all smx hosts got one with their number engraved in the back. but maybe my mind is going off on tangents that it shouldn't.

Really nice work Scott. Would be nice if we could replace the pineapple/canobeans with something like that even if it were smaller and easier to ship.

No objections here :D
Love any version... Desk ornament or keychain...
