Well the news is out finally... and Blizzard will be kicking off the 2nd full release of the SC series. If you haven't seen anything on this game yet feel free to check it out here. (http://www.sc2tournaments.com)
The game is very much like StarCraft 1 and I am sure will drag in some oldies back to the RTS scene...
Rumor has it that SC 2 will make its way to the market by Late October of this year, after being under development for 4 years.

I normally hate petitions but this one seems to be getting a lot of signage in comparison to usual *nix based ones so I thought I'd throw it in here anyway - Petition for a Linux port of StarCraft 2 (http://www.petitiononline.com/ibpfl/petition.html). They make versions for the Mac which means they have Unix-like code and OpenGL engines for their games, so it wouldn't be much effort to port them.
Although someone did comment that emailing feedback_fr@vivendi.com is probably a better thing to do as if they get swamped with pleasant requests for a Linux port it would likely mean more than names on a sheet.

Not entirely sure what you mean by "a windows emulation".
VMs aren't capable of usable 3D support. Wine may be able to run it but it'll have bugs for a long time assuming it works at all. Cedega isn't an option due to moral clashes there, but it would likely be in the same boat as Wine anyway.
Native programs are infinitely better than anything running through an emulator like VMWare or compatibility layer like Wine.

I would think games will be choppy at best over an emulator...unless it like a NES emulator. :D

I doubt Blizzard will go all out and offer Linux support especially with a possible release in October 2007...

But if enough people sign the petition they have to listen... :P

Some companies release ports after the release of the main version(s).
But if enough people sign the petition they have to listen... :P
It's a show of interest, not an "omg lolz get 10k and they haev to listen!!122"

Wasnt Blizzard working on a pseudo-sequel to Starcraft called Ghost a while back? I wonder what ever happened to that.
It has been delayed indefinitely.

Pulled the plug on it to divert resources to World of Warcraft.

Which was highly unfortunate. I was actually really excited about the game.

If memory serves me right (and in my old age, more often than not it doesn't) it was supposed to be an RPG. Kind of like Zelda in space.
Looks like there is a Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarCraft:_Ghost
I think it was more for consoles.

It was a type of MMO/RPG kind of like WoW but not really :) .. No one really knows much about it outside of its title. But it would have been a sweet game regardless. Blizzard has yet to push out a crap game...

Definitely wasn't MMO or RPG. It's was more of a tactical action game. You played as one of the Terran ground stealth units. By the name, I'm pretty sure they were called Ghosts (never played Terran much).
It was in a third person perspective, and obviously stealth was your goal for completing missions. It looked really cool.

Sorry, I had to say it. Starcraft is an excellent game that I still play every other day, but damn. The N64 version was just ridiculous. ;D

Let me try again:
Blizzard has yet to push out a crap PC game...
I remember some pretty crappy games from the Silicon & Synapse days, but that was also the era that saw them develop Lost Vikings... Which might still be the coolest side-scrolling, multi-character, puzzle game ever...
Hey! I liked Starcraft 64!! :o
