View Full Version : Car Insurance...
So right now with my 1991 S-10 pickup I am paying only $67/month in insurance... however I am about to buy a second car, a 99' Ford Taurus SE. I am 24 so the rate hasn't dropped yet, but I am curious if my insurance will go up with a new car? I mean I can only drive one at a time :p My record is clean as well.
Anyone know?
FYI, the new Ford is my Aunt's and it's in excellent condition appearance wise, the head gasket is busted, but I'll be fixing that this weekend before I make a final decision, only $300 so it ain't a bad deal.... just hope it's not a crack engine block instead of the gasket :o

I had one of those. Blew a head gasket. Asked mechenic if we should do both head gaskets. He said nah, don't worry about the other it would be fine. 2 weeks later the other one blew. Had to tear it all down twice. A friend had almost the same thing happen to him. His was 3 months apart.
You might want to spend the extra $50 and do em both at the same time. Just a word of caution :)
Insurance is so complex anymore they need a computer to figure it out hehe.
Generally if safety rating goes up, insurance goes down. Horsepower goes up, insurance goes up, etc... I'd go to progressive.com and get a couple of quick quotes with only the car changing. That'll let you know what to expect at least.
I have progressive.... found there site... damned insurance is gonna go up allot more than I expected... $10 is fine.... $40 is not cool. But they like to drop my rate every 6 months by $10. But in the end I might just sell it, the Kelly blue book lookup I just did says the car is worth at least $2500 with only the basic options and all that. Which will be nice for getting rid of one credit card and giving me an extra $65 tow orth with each month or drop on the next card down and get rid of that bastard quicker.

When you turn 25 (actually took a couple of months for me to see the drop) you will save money. However, you will most likely see an increase in rates because I'm sure the '99 is worth more than the '91. I'm assuming you have full covereage.
I have full coverage on a 2000 Dodge RAM SLT Sport (Regular Cab) for ~$74/mo and full coverage on a 2003 Dodge RAM SLT Hemi (Quad Cab) for ~$84/mo. Harris county has some horrible insurance rates, as you well know.

I was reading this... thinking Harris county... wait a minute....then I looked at your location. Right down the road from me!
If you are ever in CS or Victoria let me know, i'll buy you a beer or something :D
On topic of the thread, I personally don't use progressive but I heard it is not all what it is cracked up to be?
cheers :jared:

I'm with State Farm. I cannot recommend them because I believe they screwed me over on the only claim I ever had (someone vandalized my truck a fews back while I was at work), but I haven't found anyone cheaper than them so I've stayed. I figure the insurance companies all are the same (screw you if they can) so I'm better off holding on to more of my money so that when I get screwed it doesn't hurt quite as badly.
