RegCleaner

Regcleaner is a free program that allows you to get rid of pieces of programs you have deleted but are still cluttering your registry. Super easy to use:

Be careful with regcleaner as it can be a little harsh sometimes and also it will remove registry entries required for Norton Utilities, meaning it wont work anymore.

Just thought I would add 2xExplorer to the list. I like hotkeys to quickly jump to folders that I have bookmarked. I like working with two views at all times. It's a big improvement on having two explorer sessions tiled side by side and it's free.

Xp Anti-Spy (http://www.xp-antispy.de/) - Good and simply tweaking program. Removes those annoying messages about the reports when Windows crashes something, among other things. Use and throw away basically.

Daemon Tools (http://www.cd-rw.org/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/daemon_tools.cfm) - Useful program similar to Iso Buster (I guess..). Creates virtual drives to mount images.

Here is a list of freeware (and one Shareware) utilities solely for the purpose of investigating what's under the hood of a typical Win98SE install. The aim of this experiment is to strip an install of all unnecessary files and registry entries for a standalone DAW. I think some of the obvious things we don't need are:

Printer
Modem
Internet Explorer
Networking (I know some people will want to link their computers so this is optional)

This bloatware comes in the form of:

1-Registry entries
2-.dll, .inf, .exe, .vxd, .sys files
3-Resources locked in core files that could be editied.

So please strip away and share your findings

The List:

RegMon

Process Explorer
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/f...e/procexp.shtml

I've been using all of these utilities to basically "sniff" out what I can strip.

I advise you do not use anything here unless like me you have a TEST COMPUTER that is for NOTHING more than experimentation! yOU WILL DEFINITLY MESS YOUR LIFE UP IF YOU USE THESE THINGS ON YOUR PERSONAL PC!!

This site is unique.

To qualify for TinyApps, a program must:

Not exceed 1.44mb
Not be adware
Work under at least Windows 9x (this does not apply to non-Windows apps, of course).
Not require the VB/MFC/.NET runtimes. Also, preference is given to apps which are 100% self-contained, requiring no installation, registry changes, etc.
Preferably be free, and ideally offer source code. Shareware will only be listed if there is no freeware alternative.

OpenOffice.org is a good thing now that it has reached beyond version 1.0. But, best to give folks a link as OpenOffice has a download agreement:
