It there any reason to upgrade from Windows2000 AS to Windows 2k3 on an old machine, any realistic gain?

IMHO, if it isnt broke, don't fix it. If your not having problems with it currently, then don't add problems trying to update it. When you have a specific _need_ then I would start to look at my options.

1 box, XP Pro, 7 boxen Win2K. If you kill all the damn bloatware crap running by default Micro$oft threw into XP it's just as good as 2K.:D
Win2k pro, fastest for 3dmark benching and general use

WinXP Pro SP1 on home computers; Win2K Pro SP2 on office machines. Nearly seven months away from home, and not one problem at all with the OS on either machine.

XP Pro, 2k Pro but used to run ME which was awesome except for how freakishly slow it was.

I seem to have the opposite with ME, I always found it was fine, and now a mate of mine is going BACK from XP Pro to ME because its MORE STABLE, that and it boots in like 3 seconds.
NS
Ive only ever used Win ME once, and by that I mean for 5 minutes to install something for a client.

I 'umbly write to you from an (original) win98 machine.
I'm currently making an "embeded type" o/s for a dedicated standalone DAW using 98SE core (with major file/reg stripping) a 95 explorer and certain ME file upgrades. I'm doing this via 98lite Preview and a slew of other freeware progs.
BTW why no ME in the poll?

It's already below 40MB and I think I can trim about 6MB more. One impressive thing is how fast it is on the Explorer and boot up but I need more information to strip it.

Sheesh a lot of XP users nowadays...
I run dual boot 98/2K Pro but I haven't touched 98 in a while so I might do a format and get rid of it.
