I found out today at another forum that some fry's stores will ship to other states, which is good for areas with no Fry's store. This week in the sales ads for some stores they have the K7S5A and a 2400+ bundle for only $89, very good deal. So I'm going to call the Sunnyvale store in San Francisco to send me one for the new family computer I'm building. And I'm going to trade out the 1700+ that I just bought for my new computer for the 2400+ :)

That's a great deal! That wouldn't be the "pro" version of the K7S5A would it?

Sunnyvale isn't in SF... it's in the same area, but it's a good 50 miles or so away.

Outpost and Fry's don't always stock the same things or have the same prices (ask 'em about that and see what they tell u- it might be funny)

Fry's is THE most godawful store on the face of the planet, bar none. CompUSA, BestBuy, Circuit City, none of 'em can compare to Fry's in any area. Fry's has more totally incompetent employees that don't speak english than anywhere I know of, their prices aren't very good (except for occasional rebates) and the return process is horrendous...

Gekky1, two of the fry's that I called I got some non-english speaking employees, hahah it was pretty funny. But hey it's a good deal for building a cheap system, and mtgoat, I do believe it is the pro version of the board.

Amen to that, specially the part about prices!

Clutch; I agree with you that it's a good deal, but I assure you that you really aren't missing out on anything by not having one near you.

I've always heard that Frys wasn't a good store, however, who am I to judge since I've never been in one. Maybe when I am in Dallas in August I should go to one.

I bought 5 network cards from frys and 2 of them worked. I noticed the ones that didn't work had white stickers on the box (returns) these were sold as new, by the way. When someone returns something at frys they just put it back on the shelf.

Rule number one. Know what you want when you go there.

Rule number two. Never buy an 'open box.'

Rule number three. Use common sense about your purchases.

Rule number four. I have returned two items in 7 years. "It doesn't work." Money back.

CompUSA normally does suck, but I've gone there the last couple of times I've had to purchase something off-line because the last time I went to Fry's the guy I asked help me find the PSU I was looking for (didn't see it on the shelf) called me stupid to my face because I overclock my computer.

I let him waste his time writing up the sale in his terminal and print out the slip that gives him a commission, then I wadded up the slip and left the store without purchasing the PSU. Went to CompUSA, got a 50W higher PSU (430) Antec True Power for $10 more.

Fry's needs to teach their people that overclockers don't like being called stupid to their faces.

That guy wasn't too bright. Since they now carry many items that are just for the PC Enthusiast.

a2j... ROFLMAO! You're kidding, right? That's rediculous. I ran into some idiot employee @ Frys ("but then I repeat myself" to quote Mark Twain) giving someone bad advice and corrected him. The poor idiot then dared to question my advice. Bad move on his part. I made him look like such a moron that eventually he just told the guy to "do whatever he says" and walking away... God I love making salespeople that think they know everything feel as stupid as they really are... :D

Wish I were kidding.

Here's the deal.

My computer crapped out about 6 or 7 weeks ago . . . a little before Icrontic was hacked, maybe a couple weeks or so.

I thought it was the motherboard only, and since I didn't have spare computer parts to test stuff with I didn't take my system apart. I ordered a mobo to replace my bad one. Later that night or the next day I disconnected the PSU from my bad mobo and saw the PSU connector was actually MELTED into the mobo. Freaky stuff.

Went to Fry's to get a PSU. Didn't see the one I wanted on the shelf so I asked the guy if he could look in the back. Well, turns out there was one on the shelf, but it was in the wrong stack in the very back. I had told him my PSU fried, he said "well it wasnt an Antec." I said, "Actually, it was." Later I told him the symptoms . . . system crash, Windows would come up, then die a couple minutes later. Then the system would hardly boot, when it would boot, only about 1/3 of the time would it go into Windows and if it did it would immediately die. Then it just died completely!

I told him I didn't know what caused it . . . possibly a capacitor in the PSU, or a resistor who knows. I said I thought for a second it could have been excess heat as it was just starting to get warmer (summer time) and since I was overclocking I backed it down and it still did it.

It was then that he went on to tell me how overclocking is bad. He said I could have melted my entire motherboard or possibly caused a fire.

I told him that I've overclocked every CPU I've owned for about the last 6 years or so. He proceeded to tell me that overclocking is "dumb" but since I know better that I was "stupid."

He let some other air flow out of his mouth but I don't recall what it was.
I was irritated by now and was not going to give Fry's my business.

Personally I don't think overclocking is going to cause my motherboard to melt nor cause a fire to start. No matter how high I overclock, but whatever.

BTW: Mark Twain rules! :D

I think from what I have heard we are lucky in Texas in regard to Fry's. All the ones here seem to be pretty good as far as RMA'ing stuff or getting satisfaction in the end. The prices have actually come down in the past year to where I can get something there if I need or want and can't wait I usually get it from Fry's as it is the only place I can stomach around here.

In regard to "moron" or "self rightous"(even bigger morons) employees; I just let them make a fool out of themselves then take the time to make a complaint about them. Funny thing about when I make a forray into Fry's, I usually end up helping someone.

I'm in Texas too.

This was the only "bad" experience I had at Fry's with an employee being overly rude.

I don't fault Fry's the company, but at the same time I did not feel like giving them my business that day, and I still don't feel like giving them my business right now. I'm sure in a few weeks/months I'll go back, but right now I'd rather go to CompUSA (which is about 7 miles closer) and has comparable pricing. The selection is definitely not as broad, but the employees (especially tonight when I was in there) were all extremely helpful and the checkout girl is kinda cute too. :D
