View Full Version : Icrontic will be sending flowers to the funeral
Mtngoat Update
For those interested, the Icrontic staff is collecting donations to send flowers to the funeral of Larrys daughter Heather. The arrangements will be sent under the name
“Larrys Friends at Icrontic”. If you are interested in making a donation please contact me ASAP thru email or PM’s. Donations will be excepted in almost any form including Paypal. There is no firm data on the funeral yet so we have a couple days here to get this done but please don't wait to long if you want to help out.
Thanks in advance for those interested in helping out.

Have I told you guys and gals lately what a special group you are and how much I love ya all? I mean that. This is something really special we are doing here and it means a lot to see so many get involved. Any pictures of Heather's bouquet?
I hope we collectively gave enough to purchase something very nice for her.
I will post pics when its bought. Its like a week yet before the funeral. They only set the date yesterday. mtngoat left yesterday for Alaska. He started a thread below with teh funeral date. I have gotten money in the mail both the last two days so I will wait till like monday to buy the wreath thing.
They also have crosses as well as wreaths for funerals if anyone has any comments on what type of arrangement? You can follow Lins link above. They had one or two florits in Kenai. Their prices were a little higher then here but... hell its Kenai is Alaska. A hamburger out somewhere is like 6 bucks. I bought a poackage of balogna a deal of bread and potato chips at a big grocery store in Anchorage and it cost like 12 bucks I think it was. Everything is soooo expensive up there. I had hoped we could colect enough for two wreaths maybe but we didn't get that much. But one top of the line big wreath and another flower arrangement is definatley a go !

Probably best to let mtgoat decide which he would prefer, but if I had a vote I'd go for the cross . . . or a very nice plant. Flowers wilt after just a couple of days, whereas plants can live indefinitely. We still have many plants from my uncle's funeral, which was 1 year ago this coming Sunday.

Well mtngoat lives in Texas and the funeral is in Alaska where his asshole (that is a direct quote) ex-wife lives. I don't think plants are an option here unless you just want to send them to mtngoat after the funeral instead of at the funeral.
On a side note... If there is money after a big wreath we could add a smaller arrangemenrt or upgrdae the wreath or maybe just pass the money on to mtngoat. He was working as a trucker. Remember, and when she was hurt he flew to Alaska and stayed there a couple weeks. You guys have any idea what it costs to fly from Texas to alaska on short notice? Its friggin unreal. He then flew her back to Texas and she was in the hospital here when she dies. Larry's current wife was having surgery when he returned from Alaska also before the daughter died. Now Larry, his wife and daughters remains after cremation have flown BACK to alaska for the funeral. This has been a HUGE financial drain on them. After we send flowers would you guys want every penny spent on flowers or maybe pass the extra money back to mtngoat to help cover expenses? I mean its not a huge amount but... If we just get a nice huge wreath we would still have a pretty good amount to send larry too.
Its you guys call on this.

Its you guys call completey.
Why not scan the offerrings from the flower shops LIN posted and see what strikes you guys fancy? thats way you understand the prices we are dealing with here. The wreaths started in th ecatalog at like 145 bucks. They may have cheaper ones but in the online catalog thing that was the start and they went up from there. We raised in the high 200 dollar range.
Would love to have you guys help pick what you feel is appropriate at this time. We still have a week so we could have an online poll and everyone that gave money could vote.

I'd probably get a couple Ficus Benjaminas or Chinese Evergreens that way Larry and his ex-wife can both keep one. Those plants will live indefinitely. The flowers on the crosses/wreaths will die in less than a week.

You are not undestanding the logistics of Larry getting anything from ALASKA to Texas. That was the point I tried to make to you several times.
Tex
Um, if one is wanted for each of both houses, could one be delivered to each??? One each from two florists, one in Texas and one in Alaska???? So the florists handle the logistics of each making a local delivery, one to each place?????
Or send flowers to Alaska(Alaskan florist) and a plant directly to Larry(Texas florist)???
I am not trying to butt in, but this exact thing has happened with friends, and in some cases it is easier to send something not so huge to remote place via a remote retailer and have something bigger sent to the person you know better from a retailer local to him. TWO orders is a way around logistics-- nothing to carry, except if he wants maybe a picture of what got delivered right to him.
John Danielson.
PS, if additional funds were to be made available in a couple weeks, could they be forwarded onward, Tex???

A gesture of rememberance and respect. We're doing that with the flowers/wreath. I have absolutely no qualms with forwarding on any remaining funds to Larry.
LIN
Funds can be sent directly to mtngoat I am sure and greatly appreciated at any time.
I think Larry would probaly rather have the cash then a seperate plant sent to his home. I hope that doesn't sound crude.
Personally I think we should have SOMETHING sent to the funeral itself and then anything else forwarded to larry. The size or extent of what is sent to the funeral is the call of all of you who sent or contributed funds to this cause. Your decision !
Taking care of live plants in rural alaska is a tough job especially if your not always there. This is a freezing cold environment much of the year and many don't keep their house a constant 70 degrees which a houseplant may need. I understand the thought but... you have not been to Alaska and seen how folks live. When its 40 below zero outside your house may drop to 40 degrees in the day time, at times of the year if no one is in the house. You light a wood stove when you get up in the morning or get home from work.... The goal is to simply not have your pipes freeze. Not trying to keep a nice temperature for houseplants. Human survival is the goal. And human survival is tough enough much less house plants. Its a tough place to just survive guys.
Cheers
Tex
I'm not overly fond of standard wreaths but whatever you feel is best I've no problem with.
You asked for suggestions and I'll post my two here. From the link I posted earlier
http://www.localflorist.info/States/alaska_florists.htm and clicking on the Kenai link, I think this is a lovely soft arrangement at whatever size selection you think appropriate:
http://www.localfloralshop.com/cgi-bin/lfsitem.cgi/Fireside_Basket
Or this bright Spray:
http://www.localfloralshop.com/cgi-bin/lfsitem.cgi/Colorful_Spray
Again, at whatever size you deem appropriate.

Please, don't let this drag for much longer. Only you know how much money is available and how much we can spend so YOU make the decision. We fully trust you and your judgement.
If you say Larry can use the money, spend less in flowers and send him the rest, end of the story.
Around $275 to spend. The funeral isnt till the 25'th so there is lots of time really.

$275 should be plenty to get a couple plants/wreaths/crosses and still have a nice chunk of change to give towards the costs of the funeral.

The wreaths STARTED at 145 in Kenai Alaska. That was the cheapest one in their online catalog. Yhey may have a cheaper wreath but thats starters for anything very nice. The upgraded ones were like 173 and then 200. For ONE wreath. Not a couple of anything big. Please spend some time looking over the linked catalog.
We pretty much get a small arrangement and forward a nice hunk of cash or get a nice wreath/cross and send a smaller amount of cash. Thats not including delivery fees etc.. He is not in Kenai. He is 20 miles away in another little town. I keep trying to explain to you that Alaska is a differant sorta critter. gas for your car is probably 4 bucks a gallon and brought in on tanker ships twice a year when the ice breaks up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think $50 or $100 is going to make a big difference to mtgoat. Just get the flowers and don't worry about trying to finance other expenditures. Even if you gave Larry all the cash, it ain't going to make a big difference to him. This is just a token from Icrontic Members to pay their respects to one of our memember's daughter. It's the thought that counts. If there is anything left over, Larry might what it contributed to a charity in Heathers name. Duno.
Whatever everyone wants is cool with me. I think muliple plants and live plants is a bad idea. We need to focus on something for the funeral and whatever is left to mtngoat.
You guys look over the catalog thats linked and figure out what amount or range of amounts etc.. you want to spend on flowers...

I suggested the two plants because my uncle died last year. My grandmother finds solace in looking at the plants she still has from his funeral. The plants lasted and are a memory to her that someone actually gave a crap about her child and tried to show respect.
I said get two because that way both parents could have a plant.
But whatever is decided on I'm fine with. I just thought I'd give my $.02 because my family has gone through a loss recently and you find comfort in things that seem stupid to those that haven't been through the same thing.

We have been in Alaska since Friday, 11 July and have been visiting and doing a little traveling in state to "chill" for a while. Here is the Obituary from the Peninsula Clarion (http://www.peninsulaclarion.com/stories/071503/obi_071503obi001001.shtml). I have been in the dark on the whole matter since my ex doesn't want to allow me to have anything to do with it other than attend. I thank everyone for the support and hope to get to know more of you better in the future.

And as I have tried to make clear also. His ex-wife is a bitch basicaly. I don't think larry really cares about giving her squat and the plant would DIE in Alaska pretty quick.
I know you meant well. I just knew larry personally and knew what he thought about his ex (which should be clear from his post above btw...) and I have been to Alsaka. And its a differant world then we think of down here.

I like the red & white tribute also, I think I'd like to see the one shown sent though. Just personal preferance I think changing sizes can make flowers look very different, not sure what they would look like smaller/how much smaller they would get.

The red and white is good for me man, Can you get it there by tomorrow?
The website says as long as its before 1:00 in HIS TIME ZONE they deliver same day. So unless they run out of flowers for the funeral we should be fine. Its a chain of florists and they had TWO of this chain in Kenai. Delivery is like 20 miles. Funeral is at 7:00 PM. Laryy had someone that worked at one of the two on the website and they said they delivered to the little town he is in all the time no problem. You would think this funeral would be a big deral and they would have other orders going there etc..
Tex
God I just love this shit. So of course neither place there that are supposed to be associated with the links above ikn Kenai can see the pics on the internet as they have no internet access and the numbers on the website don't match their book... (long sigh...) She wanted me to describe the exact kinds of friggin flowers and I couldn't so I had Robin call her back. She worked with Robin and the lady said she thought they charged to much on the web anyway and would make us a up a super arrangement for that money with the flowers in the one in the picture after Robin and her talked all thru it. So we are set. (long sigh...) And I'll send Larry the rest the money when he gets back.
