getting past w2k password

I found an old hdd of mine with w2k loaded. The problem is that I have no idea what the admin password is.
Is there any way around this?
I know the user name and password, but I need to change the hardware configuration.
I don't want to relaod, some of the stuff installed actually works, and I am having a hell of a time rebuilding this system.

did you try to go into safe mode and change the password? (guaranteed to work under xp)

Google Tom's root boot and see if the ISO helps-- I cannot tell you more, instructions on site (yes, it has a PW decoder that works with NT and Win2K, comes as an ISO, you need to burn as ISO and CD boot from it AFTER printing instructions out).

I would give you a link, but the Linux box is busy BitTorrenting (uploading (no, not downloading, done with that for now) at 30 KB\sec) AND Folding and is using almost ALL of its 1 GIG of RAM doing so and THIS box is on dialup access (backup ISP called NeanderTech-- their forums, appropriately, are called the CAVE :D -- connect rate 50667 bps in Florida, QWEST network connect, about $6.00 a month for 6 hours a day) and that would take forever to find from this box.

Basicly, you need something MS does not officially offer to average users, an admin PW cracker. The ISO only runs LOCAL, so it is typically used only where needed and not to get illegitimate access. So, will tell you that much.

Expect Linux on CD Boot, a MINI Linux distro with some BSD stuff thrown into the toolkit. File system recovery stuff, etc. also included. A baby toolkit, handy to have around.

5 min. my ass. It took me 15 min just to read the warnings!!
I may just wipe and reinstall, there are other issues also.

With this CD and two minutes, I've changed the password and rebooted :cool:

15 min to read the instructions,
5 min to dl and make the disc,
2 min to remove the password.
