Well what is it, Cable (digital or analog[i think thats the term ie old school]) or Satellite, or Basic antennae based tv.
Standard poll, vote then explain your vote if you want, agree, disagree ect.

I pick Satellite Television. Why, well ive delt with cable and so called digital cable, the picture quality was about as good as the basic signal i get upstairs using the wire in the wall to view Fox. The built in channel guide for satellite (Direct TV is what I have) is spoiling. Additionally, yes the signal does go out during a heavy storm, but this is no problem and if there werent any trees blocking the signal here i dont think it would go out ever.
Finally, with Satellite you are free from the oh so annoying cable tv ads for themselves and their cable modems. Anyone exposed to Cox cable will quickly go insane from their ads. I think the rare signal outage for freedom from the steady stream of annoying jingles and screaming ads is a very generous trade.

After having both cable and sat-tv I noticed that sat has far less outages and when they occur you don't have to talk to some moron about getting it fixed 1/2 the time. Even when I lived in the far far north where the sats are very low to the horizon and almost anything can get in the way the picture quality was still as good as the best cable as long as there wasn't something large in the path. On the other hand, with basic antenna tv you tend to get more done instead of watching the tube.

Voted for cable.

Never had sat, and I've heard more good stories than bad.

#1 reason I prefer cable: multiple receivers.

Say you have 5 TVs in the house on cable. No problem! I don't need 5 different cable boxes (except for digital cable).

If one of those TVs has picture-in-picture, I don't need another cable box, but I would need 6 receivers for a satellite.

Want to watch something on channel 2 and record something on channel 3? I can do that with no extra recievers, but satellite would require 1 receiver for the TV and 1 for the VCR.

#2 reason: I think #1 was good enough :D Also, isn't DirecTV going after people purchasing smart card readers/writers, even if it wasn't for illegal purposes?

Although cable's the most convenient of the options, I really prefer no TV whatsoever. Didn't watch a minute for 6 months prior to baseball season, and after October I will likely cancel my subscription in lieu of not wasting more of my money on something I don't watch.

The picture quality with satellite is much better than cable. Then there is the NFL and College football packages. :D

That's way too many channels for my liking at the moment. 60 is enough for me.

No TLC?
And I will admit it, I have been corrupted by the females in my family, I actually like HGTV.

Here's what I mainly watch (on cable, not broadcast):

Fox News
TLC
HGTV
TechTV
Discovery
MSNBC
C-Span

That's pretty much it.
Of course, I'll watch other channels sometimes, but those are the ones that I watch most often.

Out of like 150-160 channels I get on Directv, I only have 40 in my favorites. I mostly watch TLC, History, Discovery and movies. Also the regular night shows on ABC, CBS and NBC. Much <3 for JAG and Catherine Bell :D

Satellite blows ANY cable signal (Digital included) out of the water. Mine is from Dish Network. Until my neighbor's trees grew too tall I lost my signal 4 times in two years, for a total outage time of 7 minutes.

When I had cable, I lost the signal at least once a month!!

Many times it was out for HOURS!!!

Though the trees are a pain, I still would NEVER go back to cable.

I presently use cable modem(and I am NOT happy to have to use it) for broadband, but the minute something else is available that can compete, cable is GONE!!!

As for price, satellite is almost half the price of cable in my area, for the same service. Each additional set is only $5 for full programming the same as the other sets. Cable wanted to charge me full price PER TV!!!

I usually lose my analog cable signal once a year. As for satellights I know internet through satellights is one heck of an expensive deal. I would probably rather have digital cable and a cable modem.

Another advantage of satellite that is in some places illegal, is that you can get local abc, cbs, nbc, and fox from the east coast and west coast. Fortunatly I live far enough away from the city to qualify for local tv via satellite. So i was once able to watch the simpsons at 6, 6:30, 7:30 10, 10:30 a day before they started changing the scheduling around.
