beeping/freezing in xp

I'll try to keep this story short. My brother built a computer for me (he has done several successfully before), just before I left for college, however the motherboard apparently fried after about a day of normal use. Thus I was left to assemble it myself here (with instructions over the telephone) when the replacement arrived. I think I did it right, because it does run. However, in windows every few minutes it will give a long beep and freeze up. Sometimes this lasts a few seconds, other times I am forced to restart it. The fans are running fine, so I don't think it's overheating. Is it possible that windows was corrupted when it crashed before? Or do you think it's a hardware problem? Any advice appreciated- I'm not especially experienced with this kind of thing, it was thrust upon me by circumstances....

This sounds more like a hardware problem.

Just because the fans are running, it doesn't mean that your processor isn't running at 100'c.

I would actually CHECK your temps.

I checked it. It was running at 95 degrees, Fahrenheit.

Edit: I tried another keyboard, and it worked fine. So apprently my cheapie keyboard was breaking my computer. Ironic, no?
