Bellsouth Telephone

Ok this is a long shot but we have this Bellsouth telephone/answering machine and we are trying to make it so it just takes messages. So we turn off the ringer on the base but the handset is evil/posessed and the ringer is on HI. I've tried everything and can't change it. Anyone have an idea how to do it?

That damn little POS wouldnt work for anthing but we found the manual and all is good now.
