View Full Version : How to remove printer Icons?

Hi everyone.

I am busy working on a pseudo EOS for a dedicated DAW((98SE). I have two subsystems that I'd really like to strip out. The first being the printer shell. At the very least I'd like to remove the printer Icons from control panel and Statr>Settings without removing control panel. I have been trying different things with Resource Hacker, and Axarscan hex editor but nothing has worked. Oddly there seems to be no info on this on the internet at all.

I've had a bit of success by removing print .dlls, printer references in registry and even printer strings in explorer. Can anyone point me in a better direction?

Thanks!

Checked with a resident M$ guru, says using Tweakui and removing the printer cpl files should do the trick.

(Beyond that neither of us could be 100% sure as neither of us have run 98se in quite some time)

Sounds like the printer has it's own .cpl file for printers in XP. Not the case in 98SE though:mad:

Are there any forums that have topics covering hex editing?

I'm sure there are, but good luck finding them... took me 4 months to find a decent fish forum.
