When I was a kid the above train transformer and the ones on top of power poles were the only things associated with the word. ;)

I like the old school (1980s) Transformers. This new stuff just ain't the same. Beast Wars and Tranformers Armada. It seems like there was one between Beast Wars and Armada, but I really think it was just a Beast Wars "Elite" or something where it was the same stupid characters just in new metal.

I swear it's a vast conspiracy by toy companies who figure they can re-release all the toys from the 80's, when I was a kid, and have a whole new audience -- especially dads (like me) who will think how cool it is that their kids are playing with the same toys that he played with. No R&D! Cheap! Just revive an old product catalog! Conspiracy I tell you! Conspiracy!

They did that with my generations stuff and call it nostalgia so they can charge real big bucks.
If it ain't the 1980s Optimus Prime, it ain't a transformer.

I had a one of those transformers that turned into some kind of jeep since I was like 3-5 and I still haven't been able to transform it into anything ;D

Not only that, but these new transformers are all cheap plastic, not the all metal they used to be.
To me, it seems that Transformers Armada is the closest to the original series.

Action Men were the same, they were hardened rubber and you could get all the different gear for them, now they are cheap plastic in one use scenarios. All for the business I guess........

Personally, I've got a hot wheels collection of around 1,000 cars @ last count... I'm trying to decide whether I want to keep them, sell them all, or sell some of them...

Hot Wheels definitely had the best selection and the coolest looking cars, but Matchbox made cars that were of much higher quality and thus more fun to play with.

Soundwave was awesome. He transformed into a Walkman and had cassettes that popped out and transformed into birds.

Bumblebee became Gold Bug @ the end of the series.
Soundwave WAS awesome! Rumble and Lazerbeek were probably the best cassettes.
Megatron (the gun) was cool.
Megatron (the cannon) sucked. (Galvatron?)
Devastator was awesome, but the constructicons alone weren't anything special.
Omega Supreme was sweet.
The decepticon that controlled the space gate on Cybertron was cool.
The Arial bots were cool, but I can't recall the name of the big robot they merged to create.
There was a HUGE aircraft autobot found in ice that was pretty cool.
Orion Pax (Optimus before he was Optimus) was cool.
The robot that created Optimus was cool.
Hot Rod was cool.
Hot Rod took the orb of leadership or whatever it was called from Optimus and became Rodimus Prime and that was cool.
The absolute coolest transformer of all? Optimus Prime, of course! Even if he wasn't Prime in the end, Optimus still ruled!

I had Galvatron. He was great as when he was a tank, his turret/tube-firey thing flashed yellow when you pressed his button.
Oo-er, sounds rude. Here's a pic...

matchbox was my favorite
I loved Transformers as well.
I have a big collection of figures in the basement.
A movie is coming up.
And it is not animated.
Rumours are that they will use real live actors and little CGI.
EDIT: I won this in a competition.
He is umm... very large.
His name is Fortress Maximus.
Quote from a page devoted to him.
Holy Christ. Now that is a Christmas present. Imagine if you would...a 2.5' tall robot that transformed into a city about as heavy an a small child, with more guns and weapons than underground Iraq, with a head that transforms into a robot - which has another head that transforms into a robot! AND - its a Transformer to boot. This was Fortress Maximus. The most regal Transformers toy ever made, with a retail price that suggested 24K screws holding it together.
I have found the images on the internet.
It is not pictures of my figure.
